It's early September, not much going on, not much to talk about. This is just an "offseason thread" to go to when you're bored. Who is your favorite player on each team, and why?
Atlanta Hawks: Al HorfordI love Joe Johnson as well, who is one of the more underrated players in the league, but I've always been a giant fan of Al Horford. I loved him in college, I love his attitude, I love the toughness, and I love the fact that he brings it defensively each and every night. He's a great addition in Atlanta.
Boston Celtics: Paul PiercePaul has been my favorite player in the league for quite some time now. He has been here through thick and thin, and never gave up or demanded a trade. He's an outstanding all-around player who improves as a leader by the month, and I hope he gets what he deserves in Boston - a ring.
Charlotte Bobcats: Raymond FeltonFelton really is one of the best young guards in the game, and though inconsistent, he deserves a little more recognition. He has a chance to be one of the premier point guards in the game. He has outstanding floor vision, and I think he's already a top 10 playmaker in the league (if not, he's honorable mention). I can't wait to see him fully run the show this year, with a legit scoring option beside him.
Chicago Bulls: Luol DengI liked him at Duke, but I've become infatuated with him. He's an outstanding defender, and he has always shut Paul Pierce down each time we play the Bulls. That mid-range jumper is one of the league's best, and the hustle is outstanding. He does all the little things, plays excellent defense, and is rapidly growing as a player. He's certainly an All-Star in the making, and I think the best player on the Bulls' roster.
Cleveland Cavaliers: LeBron JamesCan't go wrong with King James. No explanation needed.
Dallas Mavericks: Josh HowardI like Dirk, but Josh Howard is my guy. I'm very happy he made the All-Star team last year, he really deserved it. What a steal at 29 for Dallas.
Denver Nuggets: Allen IversonLove Carmelo, but you have to respect Allen Iverson and his heart. He's pound-for-pound one of the toughest guys I've ever seen, and a true warrior. That trait alone gets respect from me, but he's not too shabby on the court either.
Detroit Pistons: Chauncey BillupsThe 3rd best point guard in the league, Mr. Big Shot, an upper echelon defender. What's not to like? Damn Celtics, why did you have to get rid of him?
Golden State Warriors: Monta EllisClearly one of the most exciting young players in the league, with great athleticism, an improving jumper, blazing speed, and the most underrated part about his game is his perimeter defense. He's no slouch.
Houston Rockets: Tracy McGradyI really hope T-Mac can lead his team out of the first round this year, because he's certainly one of the most talented swingmen to ever play the game. He does it all, but please Adleman... get it done.
Indiana Pacers: Jermaine O'NealI like Granger quite a bit as well, but I've always been a big fan of Jermaine. Gets it done on both ends, great shot blocker, athletic, exciting, and has the swagger. Bird and Walsh need to part ways with the man, though. I predict that it will happen by the deadline.
Los Angeles Clippers: Elton BrandPerhaps the most underrated player I have ever seen in my entire life. Why Brand has only made one All-Star appearance and never gets talked about as one of the top bigs in the league, I'll never understand. He does it all on both ends, and at just 6'8''. To top it off, he's the cosummate professional and one of the nicest guys in the league.
Los Angeles Lakers: Kobe BryantHe's a drama queen, but "Kobe haters" are really missing out. Behind only Michael, he's the most amazing 2-guard that has ever played this game, and the closest thing we'll see to MJ in our lifetimes. He is absolutely unbelievable.
Memphis Grizzlies: Mike Conley Jr.I hopped all over the Mike Conley bandwagon the first time I watched OSU play last season. His basketball instincts are ridiculous for a point guard his age, and he's surely a star in the making. I can't wait to watch him flourish under Ivaroni.
Miami Heat: Shaquille O'NealI like Wade a lot, and Antoine will always be my guy, but I have to go with the Diesel. He's the most dominant presence I've seen in my lifetime, and he's hilarious on top of it. Gotta show The Diesel some love.
Milwaukee Bucks: Michael ReddHe's a true professional and clearly one of the league's most prolific scorers and shooters, but he has improved every aspect of his game over the past 4 years. He used to be pretty overrated, to me, because he didn't give you much else besides the shooting ability, but he has really improved in every area and has taken on the roll of being the leader of the team.
Minnesota Timberwolves: Al JeffersonLosing Al was very tough, even f we recieved one of the top 50 players in NBA history in return. Jefferson is surely one of the rising stars in the NBA, and I'll confidently say that there is only a very small handful of players in the game that can match what Big Al can do on the block. His low-post arsenal is mind-blowing, and established himself as a consistent double-double threat. He works hard on top of it, and I will miss the hell out of him.
New Jersey Nets: Jason KiddThis is an easy one. Jason Kidd is one of the most complete players to ever play the game, and watching him run an offense is a thing of beauty (did I not just sound like Bill Walton right there?). He sets the tone on both ends of the floor, creates something out of absolutely nothing, and always comes up big in the postseason.
New Orleans Hornets: Chris PaulHe just blows me away, everything about him. He's clearly one of the best guards in the league already, and a superstar in the making, but the charisma he possesses along with it is great. New Orleans found themselves the gem that Atlanta should have had.
New York Knicks: David LeeI don't like many Knick players, but David Lee is one of the few I really like. He's the perfect role player, and one that any team would love to have. He hustles at all times, gets outstanding position, possesses an extremely high basketball IQ, and he's an exceptional athlete (although he doesn't look like one). He's one of the only stable pieces on the Knicks' roster.
Orlando Magic: Dwight HowardWhat a beast! His shoulders are wider than my car, and he's an absolute manchild. He's got a great attitude, great charisma, and is going to be a dominant force in this league for years to come. Once he develops some kind of post game, I'll lose it.
Philadelphia 76ers: Andre IguodalaA highlight waiting to happen, but he's also a very complete player. He's got the total package, and is an All-Star in the making. Getting rid of Webber and Iverson was the best decision for the Sixers as an organization, but it was really the best thing that could have happened for Andre Iguodala individually. He just took off, and having Andre Miller running the show just added more fuel to the fire.
Phoenix Suns: Steve NashLike Kidd, watching him run an offense and create for both himself and others is a thing of beauty. He has eyes in the back of his head, on the side of his face, on his shoes, on his back, on his arms, and his stomach.
Portland Trail Blazers: Brandon RoyOden is the franchise, but Brandon Roy has been a favorite of mine for two years. Watching him in college, he instantly became my favorite 2006 draftee, and he lived up to expectations. "He does everything well, but nothing great..." yeah, whatever. He's a complete player and will develop into a legitimate go-to guy on the perimeter in no time.
Sacramento Kings: Francisco GarciaDidn't expect that name, did you? I LOVED Garcia at Louisville, and though he has gotten off to a slow start in the NBA, I think he's going to have a real solid year this year. He's more than just a shooter, and he's a better shooter than he has shown in Sacramento. He plays defense and has pretty high offensive awareness. He just needs to find his comfort zone, he'll be fine.
San Antonio Spurs: Tim DuncanThe best PF to ever play the game, in my opinion, and the perfect teammate. No explanation needed, how can you not like Tim Duncan (unless you live in Dallas)?
Seattle Sonics: Jeff GreenBeing a big Georgetown fan, this was an easy one, although I'm a big fan of Durant and will really miss Delonte West in Boston. Green is a remarkably complete player, extremely versatile, the ultimate professional, and I agree with the poster who made the thread saying that he is the most complete player in Seattle as of right now. I wish Jeff the best of luck, I can't wait to see him in the NBA. Go Hoyas!
Toronto Raptors: Chris BoshOne of the best young players in the league, very versatile, a younger and less complete version of Kevin Garnett. Bosh is one of my favorite players to watch, and he has really progressed beautifully.
Utah Jazz: Deron WilliamsDeron is my favorite point guard in the league, hands down, and I've been infatuated with him since his Junior year at Illinois. He can do it all offensively, is more athletic than most people may think, and his floor vision is off the charts. Another superstar in the making, and I think he was robbed of an All-Star appearance last year. Both Deron and Paul better make it in 2008.
Washington Wizards: Antawn JamisonI think Jamison is pretty underrated. He's very versatile and a real scoring threat from nearly anywhere on the court.
What about you?
