Hard to imagine him opting out and leaving over $17M on the table. No team in the league is going to pay him that type of money for a season. Marion might get a longer contract from a team, and Phoenix might simply be financially handcuffed to keep Marion, but I'd say the chances are slim at this point. The Lakers don't have the cap room to sign him either, unless he agrees to huge paycut, but why would he?
If he does opt out, watch for the Spurs to make a strong run at him. Bruce Bowen is in the final year of his deal, and he's not getting any younger. The Spurs will have money to spend next summer, and Marion would be one of the top free agents out there. He fills several needs for the Spurs and would be on a Championship contender.

I think he'll opt out, he was in alot of trade discussions this summer and might opt out to prevent from being traded possibly to a lack-luster team. Who knows though.

I'm reading Marion is quite a drama queen behind the scenes from several sources. He feels like he doesn't get enough credit for the teams success.

I don't really think that we might have a chance of signing him we don't have cap space and are team isn't really the best but Bryant/Odom/Marion might be intersting to see...

However, I agree there's a slim chance he ends up on the team unless the Lakers traded Odom away.

Because I remember a while back there was a rumor going around that the Lakers rejected the Suns offer of Shawn Marion for Lamar Odom. I think Marion overall is a better player, but he can't initiate and the run the offense quite as well as Lamar Odom. I think in the grand scheme of things, if we're going to run the triangle offense, Lamar Odom is the better fit

I know some of his stats might over inflated because of the pace Phoenix plays, but Marion gets you close to 20/10 every night. He might not be able to run the offense like Odom, but the Lakers have other guys who are capable to handle Lamar's role. Luke Walton, Fisher, Farmar, Critt, and of course Kobe can all facilitate the Triangle.
Here's a head to head comparison of the two from basketball-reference.com.
Marion is better than Odom in every statistical category except assists.

I think Marion for Odom seems fair, hopefully Kobe and Marion don't ego clash, Odom and Kwame for Marion and Raja Bell or something
lol
