QUOTE

Count C/PF Chris Webber out of the Pistons' plans. Heading into the offseason, it seemed Webber's choices would be Detroit, Dallas or retirement, but the Pistons have made a commitment to keep minutes open for some of their young big men, including Fs Jason Maxiell and Amir Johnson. That means Webber, who averaged 11.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in 43 games with Detroit last year, won't be going home again. Webber had a brief flirtation with Orlando, but it appears Dallas -- which has done little to its roster besides adding SG Eddie Jones -- has an upper hand.

Just thought it was interesting that we may still be in the race for C-Webb. I would definitely welcome him here.

My money is on him going to Dallas. He probably wants to go where he has the most chance of winning an NBA championship, I'm surprised he's still considering the Magic but I'm sure that we'll see the headline for him signing with the Mavericks soon.

The main thing I love about Webber's game is his passing. I think having him here would be great because at the very least he'd be able to give some pointers to Dwight about passing out of the double team and getting his teammates involved. Chris is very good at this and if Howard could improve this part of his game, our offense would really benefit and so would guys like Lewis, Redick, and Nelson who can light it up from outside.

There's been a lot of reasons why the Magic make sense for Chris Webber, but to play Devil's Advocate here's reasons why don't want him.

    1. He's a curse. Look at his career, everywhere he ends up the team underachieves.

    2. Chris Webber doesn't play well with young team. He doesn't like sacrificing his playing time especially when a team is losing.

    3. Has never had a strong work ethic, and I don't think you want that type of negative example around guys like Howard, Shard, and Nelson.

I think Webber would be very beneficial to a team like Phoenix, Dallas, or Houston, which are closer to a title. I could see Webber getting into a funk if he joined the Magic and develop into a team cancer.

I don't think it makes sense for Webber to go to Orlando. I don't think they are even serious locks for the playoffs, to be honest with you, and Webber is at a stage in his career where he wants to win a title. I'm with GArenas, I think he'll be a Maverick before too long.

I agree too that he'll more than likely go to the Mavs. It just makes more sense.

Both the Mavericks and Suns have PJ Brown ahead of Webber, so which ever team doesn't land PJ, expect Webber to be Plan B.

I also think that Webber will end up in Dallas but what do you mean Orlando isn't a lock for the playoffs?! We were a playoff team last year and have only improved with the additions of Rashard Lewis, Stan Van Gundy, and Adonal Foyle this offseason. We only lost Grant Hill and Darko Milicic and all of our young players will have another year under their belt. I think this is definitely a playoff team and I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with the fifth or sixth seed in the East.

I agree. He should go to Dallas, he will have the best chance of wining a championship, and he fits with there offence.

Orlando may very well make the playoffs, but they certainly are not a lock. Boston was a non-playoff team last year, and they will certainly be in this season. Then you've got Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, New Jersey, Toronto, and Washington. If Miami is healthy, they'll find a way to get in as well (tough to say). That's 8, and New York has a shot as well. Orlando has improved, no doubt, but you also have to consider the fact that the rest of the East has improved as well.

I'd put Orlando ahead of New Jersey and Miami and I think the Magic are on the same level as Washington and Toronto.

Also note that New Jersey has improved. They brought in Jamaal Magloire and Krstic is back healthy and in the mix. Washington took a big hit at the end of last year with both Arenas and Butler out of the lineup to close out the season, as well as the playoffs. Toronto is one of the more solid teams in the East. I think the real wild card is Miami. If they stay healthy, they should probably make the playoffs. If Shaq misses 20+ games, which I think will happen, and Wade takes a while to adjust, then Orlando gets themselves in. If Miami is healthy, the playoffs are not a lock for the Magic.

I agree with you that the Magic are on the same level (or better) than the Wizards and the Raptors. Include the Heat in there as well.

As I see things right now top 6 teams in the east. (not ranked)

pistons, celtics, bulls, nets, magic, cavs

But I see how you say that they could get 5th seed, or they might even 3rd if they win the southeast.

The Magic are a bubble team for me. There's a headcoaching change and integrating Rashard Lewis into the mix will also take time. The Magic should make the playoffs, but I could see them just missing it as well.

I'm not excited about their point guard situation, they don't have a lot of team speed, and their depth is a concern for me.

Dwight Howard will be a better player having participated with Team USA. He will come in with a lot of confidence knowing he held his own against some of the world's best. Also practicing with great players naturally makes you better.

The Magic are going to face stiffer competition in their own division. Both the Hawks and Bobcats have aspirations of making the playoffs, and with Jason Richardson the Bobcats could surprise people.

The Wizards and Heat are both tough, although Miami will be a lame duck while Wade is out. I'd probably rank the Magic 7th in the East, possibly 6th.

    1. Cavs
    2. Pistons
    3. Bulls
    4. Celtics

If we can sign anybody at this point, it will be okay. It's not like we're wasting precious cap room.

Give him whatever, and get him here.

change the word "playoffs" to "finals", and i'd agree completely with that statement.

i think it would be a good idea for orlando to pick up webber...but it would be a dumb idea for webber to go to orlando. it's obvious he still wants a title.

and...i just couldn't see phoenix picking him up either. and if they did, that seems stupid for both parties....i just don't see how webber would work with the suns.

i'd say it's either dallas or retirement.

The Cavs first?? I don't think so. My predictions:

    1.Detroit 2.Bulls 3.Celtics 4.Cavs. 5.Orlando

The changes as far as coaching and the new additions are for the better. I'm sure they will be able to gel to the new system of coaching. Rashard Lewis will most likely be our #1 option this year. We all know that Foyle will be a defensive minded player for us. They do have some depth though. Hedo will be our 6th man this year which suits him better. Ariza and Redick will battle to start at SG. We have solid PGs. Jameer Nelson is a team player and will improve this year. I don't see the Hawks and Bobcats making any noise in the playoff race this year. Granted, we'll probably still lose to him this year but still. We are better than the Wizards and Heat hands down. The Wizards have no depth and are consistently injured. The Heat are ancient. I mean Wade is still recovering and Shaq is only getting older and slower.
