Wow...that is pretty horrible news for the Blazers, and the NBA in general.

    http://www.nba.com/blazers/news/Oden_Under...36705-1218.html

Oden Undergoes Microfracture Surgery

An exploratory arthroscopic surgery performed on Greg Oden today revealed cartilage damage to the Portland Trail Blazers rookie’s right knee. Oden is likely to miss the 2007-08 NBA season.

"Greg had an arthroscopy and a micro fracture surgery today," said team physician Dr. Don Roberts, who preformed the surgery. "He was found to have articular cartilage damage in his right knee. The area of injury was not large and we were able to treat it with micro fracture, which stimulates the growth of cartilage. There are things about this that are positive for Greg. First of all he is young. The area where the damage was is small and the rest of his knee looked normal. All those are good signs for a complete recovery from micro fracture surgery."

Oden is expected to be on crutches for up to eight weeks. Recovery time from micro fracture surgery varies from person to person, but generally takes between six and 12 months for full recovery.

"Certainly this is a setback, but our future is still incredibly bright," said Trail Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard. "Is it disappointing? Yes. However, this is a great core of talent and players of strong character and will continue to be."

Oden, the #1 pick in June’s NBA Draft, averaged 15.7 points and 9.6 rebounds for Ohio State last season, leading the Buckeyes to the NCAA national championship game as a freshman.

"We know this discouraging news for all of our fans, however, the people of Portland are very enthusiastic and compassionate about their Trail Blazers and I know they will stand behind Greg and the team during his recovery," said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. "We believe our fans and sponsors are going to continue to support us because they know we’re headed in the right direction."

Terrible news and an obvious setback to their rebuilding process. However, the Blazers still have some options at center with Joel P, LaFrentz, and even Aldridge getting spot minutes there. The other young guys will need to step it up now, Channing Frye, McRoberts, and Aldridge.

I hope the extent of the knee damage isn't significant and he doesn't have any setbacks during rehab.

Just imagine an Oden, Aldridge, Beasley front line for the Blazers

Exactly, which is why this news isn't as bad for the team. They will be back in the lottery and this opens up the opportunity to bring back Ha Seung Jin. I know Portland fans miss those billboard ads of Ha welcoming everyone to the Rose Garden.

Portland will get another lottery pick out of this, in what should be another talented draft class.

The Blazers can't be very happy right now as it puts more questions and concerns for Oden's future in the NBA. Greg was going to be relied on for a huge dynasty run which they looked capable of doing with a rising young stars in Brandon Roy, Channing Frye and LaMarcus Aldridge, but that looks like it's going to be delayed.

    Or Rose, Aldridge and Oden...

For those saying they should have drafted Durant...

I probably would have drafted Oden even if I knew he was going to be out for most if not all of the season. The way Amare has come back from this surgery is good news for Oden, because he doesnt use his athleticism as much as Amare needs to. Oden could lose most of his athleticism and still be a very good big man in the NBA.

If I'm a Blazer fan I don't know how you cannot feel dissapointed.

Your franchise player is out for the season and now has offically become injury prone before even stepping into an NBA court.

I saw McRoberts play in summer league here in Vegas and the guy is no slouch. He's no Oden, but he's going to be a huge and pleasant surprise for the team and fans. The Blazers are surely going to be that much better off for finding minutes for the guy and getting a good pick in the draft next year.

The loss of ZBo from the lineup is also going to be a boost for Roy. He may end up with a few 50 point games this season.

If I couldn't root for the Warriors, I'd probably root for Portland. It's a beautfiul city, and I love the changes they've made. So, I felt a little sick to my stomach when I read this. Greg Oden is by all accounts such a nice, dynamic, wonderful guy. Best wishes on a full and strong recovery.

Lol, I can't believe this. If I'm a Blazer fan, I'm thinking to myself....wow. Still lottery bound next year, plus Aldridge and Fry along with McRoberts can't be that bad.
