If TO was taken in voluntarily then he would be able to leave at his own discretion. However, if he had to have his stomach pumped or something of that nature then a doctor would be able to hold him. If a police officer or some other state official had taken him in then the state would be able to hold him until further notice. I worked for the state of Texas in the mental health and mental retardation field for 2 years.
Put the story together as we know, and it is not a credible story as presented. There are things missing and it doesn't fit as is. There is really no way that a guy took only 5 pain pills in 11 days after a surgery, then takes 33 at one time, and can still answer questions. Again, not rushing to an impulse decision of what happened, but the whole thing seems odd.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (bakes781)</div><div class='quotemain'>Do we even know for a fact that he took the 30+ missing pills?</div> Exactly.

I agree though as in things aren't fitting and it'll be very intersting to hear that 911 call when it's shown to the public.
He's already denied taking 35 pills & having his stomach pumped. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060927/ap_on_...hospitalized_26
Well, he may have done it to just be finished with everything. He has 2 cities, 2 ENTIRE cities who hate his guts. definitely not the route i would take, but some people are weird in the head like that.
The publicist is denying that she told the police TO was depressed & that she tried to stop him from taking any more pills. http://www.salon.com/sports/col/kaufman/20...sday/index.html Sounds like spin, but who the hell knows.

Heck they hate Santa Claus for crying out loud! :crying:
From Smoking Gun: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0927061owens1.html which includes the official police report below
"He has 25 Million reasons to be alive" was Kim Etheridge's(the publicist) last statement when she completed her portion of the press conference. :stupid:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pats_Fan420)</div><div class='quotemain'>Damn, surely the guy wouldn't try to kill himself. Seriously, he's famous, rich, and a hell of a football player. What more could a person want and why would they want to leave that behind?</div> 2 words Kurt Kobain
well he has denied the suicide attempt many times, personally I believe him. But I didn't rule it out when I heard about it, TO had a very bad childhood and he could be depressed from that. He said that he took the pills out of the bottle to seperate them because there were two in the same bottle and he put the rest in a draw. He said he didnt take all of those pills and it was just his reaction from his painkillers and supplements. Some people are saying that he could have done this for attention. Thats going too far i dont even think TO would go that far.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (DolfanDale)</div><div class='quotemain'>I don't think the media is going to back off of a possible Owens suicide attempt. That just makes him a more attractive subject to them. There is going to be a lot of speculation about if it was a real attempt and if so, then why. The bottom line is that Owens has no one to blame for the media circus but himself. He created it with his behavior.</div> I couldn't agree more. The guy is a media whore. I wonder how the rest of the team feels about all the crap that has been going on with him? I'd be tired of it by now if I was a teammate. Hell, I'm tired of it as a football fan.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but I heard that Kobain was really into the hard drugs. I doubt that T.O. is though, judging by the way he looks.
every professional athlete does a drug whether is marijuana or coke or pills....marijuana and most pills do not show up on drug tests....better example than Kurt Kobain on this one is Jimi Hendrix...Hendrix was mainly on weed and some LSD nothing more and then he was killed by 9 pain killers....they do it for a high not a suicide attempt...Just because you are rich and famous does not mean you are drug free its actually most likely the opposite..some of the last athletes i would expect i have learned from friends of theirs that they do drugs...David Wright smokes weed...never would have thought
yea Kurt Cobain didn't mix supplements and pain killers to kill himself. He had a shotgun wound to his head. He was also a herion addict. Also he was depressed most of his life and he didnt like the spotlight as much as TO does. Sounds slightly different than TO dont ya think. Cobain was also bipolar.
Watched BP's press conference followed by TO's. Not sure I got a lot of information out of either. I'll stand by the statement that the police report had false information, which is not to imply they didn't do their job or falsified anything. Looking back on the events, I can say that I don't think it was a suicide attempt and I don't believe all the information including taking 33 pills at one time and still being able to be somewhat responsive. What I don't know is that the receipe of pills was an accident or whether he's just an idiot. Either way, especially now that he is OK, I could have gone the day without hearing about him. I was impressed with Parcells. I didn't expect him to answer any questions, especially since he was in practice half of the morning and somewhat out of the loop on the whole situation. He did tell the media that he understood that this was their big story and he tried to cooperate. Naturally, he did end up walking out after about 10-15 minutes of the same question and nothing unrelated to TO. I will say Owens didn't hog the limelight either. He did apologize for the situation, kept his answers brief and to the point, and then turned it over to his publicist. Honestly, I expected him to make more of a show of it. Not that I like the guy any more because of it though
