Lawrence Frank had a busy off-season. He signed a contract extension and rewatched every Nets game from last year, regular season and playoffs looking for ways to improve the team. What he found was the need to move the ball better. "Vince obviously is a special player. But at the same time we want to spread the burden around," said Frank. "It's a little bit less predictable." He also promised a renewed commitment to defense, missing last year til the playoffs.

    Ah, no more iso's for VC at the end of regulation. About time, it got through Frank's head. You can't run the same play 15 times, and expect the opponent to fall for it.

    I also like the emphasis on defense. Let's get the season going, already!

    yes, i believe he did. and i was foolish enough to get excited about it.

    but if this does happen, the defense+motion, i'll love Frank.

    At one of the twon meetings earlier in the summer, Frank finally dropped the facade and admitted that you can drill and drill and drill, but in the end it is up to the players to execute, and that, essentially, they're having trouble getting Vince to change his mindset. Do you remember that? He said something along the lines of how Vince changes slightly more every year, but it is like taking baby steps. Upshot: Don't blame Frank.

    p.s., Nachbar better play some fucking defense, or he'll be tossed aside.

    I think this is the best way to re-make the offense. At least three starters on the Nets are excellent passers. I'd like to see an offense like Sacramento of 3-4 years ago, when C-Webb and Divac would passing the ball around all over the place.

    as far as i know, from reading info from various nets articles and the intelligent posters on S2 (NI, Dumpy, Cpaw, etc.), Collins and Krstic are good passers, too.

    with that starting lineup, the 1-5 are good to excellent passers. moving the ball around more should definitely improve this team's offense.

    Definitely remember that. Hit it right on the head. He didn't want to call anyone out. But when you're 2nd banana is pulling in 15 million a year, it's hard to take instructions from a 4 million, 37 year old coach. Honestly I do blame Frank though, why give in, get the ball in Kidd's hands, it's not that hard for Frank to see that. Then again getitng VC to move, will be the hard part, he'll earn every cent of his contract if he can do that.

    When you have 2 perimeter shooters as bgood as Bibby and Peja, it makes it go, but when you Kidd, VC and RJ, we have more basket attackers and creaters. The other team just packs it in and waits for us to either jack up a low percentage shot or snuff us out in the paint. With shooters like Peja and Bibby, that created lanes for Christie to cut through. We have to run an inverted style of htis offense, where our creaters passers are Kidd VC and RJ while the 4 and 5 will have to consistently nail the jumper.....thus a guy like KVH would fit in nicely for us at the 4.

    Problem with that theory is that Magloire and Boone will be playing significant minutes and neither is a good passer

    And neither are perimeter shooters. Double Dagger on this combo.

So...that means that the majority of the game, it'd be a good idea to keep either Collins or Krstic in the game. or Nachbar, in small lineups. (of course, that implies that we're actually running a good motion offense where the ball is moved around.)

    Good to see Frank say words like this, hopefully he comes through. I love Vince, but I agree with spreading the ball around. I think he should have the ball in his hands at the end of the game when he's coming of off a screen.

    :::Nods in agreement.:::

    What was the last summer Frank DIDN'T say he wanted to run more? Although it is a good sign that he thinks the offense was stagnant and predictable, I just hope he doesn't do the "offense that's way too complicated for anyone (but Collins) to understand" thing. Still, complicated offense > let Carter create on 3 out of every 4 plays. I doubt we'll ever see Carter run, but he definitely can be a good defender when he's not gassed from being a 1-man offensive attack.
