I doubt any teams will give Allan Houston anything more than a non-guaranteed, vets minimum deal, but if they were considering it, yesterday's news regarding Greg Oden will change that. Houston is the poster boy for what microfacture surgery can do to a career. (His big issue at the end was not the effects of the microfracture but the degnerative athritis in his knee.)

I do not think there is a muchchance that the Knicks will sign him...although theycould usehim to rescue their corporate image. They have 17 players under contract and would to cut three of them to take him on. Not gonna happen.

I think it comes down to Nets and Cavs. Both want him to work out for them. His agent doesnt want him flying around the country doing workouts and would like a consolidated workout somewhere. And I am not sure the Cavs are serious. A Houston signing would send a signal to Pavlovic that it's time to sign.

if the Cavs were serious, i'd say they have the advantage with Houston.

which i say is good, because i think Houston's trash anyways.

Yeah, but A probably led to B. That's what's really freaking out Blazer fans right now, not that Oden's going to miss this year, but that this might shave more than a few years off the end of his career.

I thinik this has little to do with Houston, much more with Oden. When you bring up degenerative condition, arthritis to Houston at what 34-35, Oden gets cut open at the beginning of his career, when will he be a less productive force? Makes you wonder on that long term deal, or how many long term max deals he will get.

Not much to do with Houston, Id ont' think Houston suitors are in it to play him 40 a night. more like 15 a night.

I think this does nothing to Houston's chances of making a team.

Not the point...what it does is remind teams of the cost of microfracture surgery. It makes it less likely that any team will give him a guaranteed contract, which is good for the Nets. Because on a level playing field, where everyone is offering him the same thing and everyone has luxury tax issues, the Nets' proximity to his home is a big advantage. I don't know if he is any good, but all reports indicate that his workout was very impressive.

And if they did sign him, he would come cheaper than Eddie House did last season. House made $1.4 million last season and will make $1.5 million in Boston. Houston would make $1.2 million of which the Nets would have to pay $770,000 and the league the rest.

How does it make anyone not give him a gauranteed contract? He wasn't going to get one anyway. It's not like they suddenly forgot the injury that forced him to retirement. That's pretty naive of you to assume that. The GMs around the league know what microfracture surgery is. They didn't forget it. Plenty of people have had it besides Greg Oden. They know how career-ending it is. It isn't because of Oden they suddenly remember. These are quite knowledgeable people. They know, nothing's changed. If anything, Houston should help Oden's prospects look better if Houston is able to come back and contribute at his age. Don't be foolish.

Please don't insult me. You are out of your league.

Sometimes, GM's, like all businesmen, can let their emotions get the better of themwhen making a deal. It happens all the time. Oden's injury is a reality check, a reminder. And to suggest that no one was going to give him a guaranteed is foolish. After all, this is a guy who got an NBA team to give him $100 million. The league's history is filled with deals that shouldn't have been made.

That 100 Million was before the salary cap was put in place. Now with the luxury cap, no one is going to risk put themselves there for Houston. Not before Oden was injured and not after. Provide me evidence where a team was going to give him a gauranteed contract and now has gone quiet. If you can't, then you're wrong. Simple as that. They might let their emotion get the better of them, but they're not all of the sudden absent minded of the decision they're making. Not to the fault where they completely forgot what Houston is coming back from. Give me a break, you're going to tell me 30 seasoned men are going to forget that Houston had a career ending injury just two years ago?...but then all of the sudden remember cause Oden is out for the year? Out of my league? You're out of your mind if you think that's the case.

I stopped reading your posts after I read the Record this morning about how the Knicks might give Houston part of the MLE.
