This is a serious question....since the motorcycle accident, hes 0-2, completing less than 50% of his passes and hes thrown for no touchdowns and 5 interceptions....his QB rating is 34.3....did the accident have a profound effect on him or is this just a slump?....we've never seen him play this poorly before....
I think he is just in a slump.. big ben is a good QB but even the greatest QB's have a bad time now and agian.. even marino did, favre did.. i am sure he will come out of it

I don't think it'll be a long term issue. It's early enough in the season that if they can get through the bye week and get healthy (including Ben) they'll rebound nicely. The game yesterday was a product of two untimely turnovers. Ben's interception at the end was a bad decision on his part, no doubt, but I think he'll be fine. I'm sickened by the 1-2 start because I think we played better than 1-2, but it happens. I'm positive that they'll be a turn around.
That Pick was just a desperation throw, last play of the game and such, not too big of a deal, his other ones looked pretty nasty yesterday though, Both QBs didn't play to well, and most of that can be blamed on the Olines, Carson had like 3 fumbles and 2 picks himself.
Without looking at all the individual stats, Ben has never impressed me as the QB to lead the team by throwing the ball all over the place. He is typically very good at running the Steeler-type offense, and that doesn't normally include throwing the ball 35+ times a game.
The interview at the end caught me off guard. He said he wasn't looking fwd to the bye week as he was just starting to get his momentum back. Huh?

Besides the motorcycle accident, he also had his appendix removed. He didn't go full-speed at training and practice for quite a while. I'm guessing that a couple of more weeks and he'll get it together more in line with what we've seen before, though I do agree with some that he wasn't a team savior to begin with. When he first came in he exceeded expectations and so the legend of Big Ben was born. IMO, he's in a good offense for what he is capable.

If I ever made that statement, I would expect to see a bunch of guys, in replica jerseys, standing on my lawn carrying tiki torches, pointing foam fingers and yelling, "EXCUSES! EXCUSES! EXCUSES!" However, I didn't see the Bengals-Steelers game, so I'm withholding judgement at this point. I think Chip made some great points and I agree that I think Big Ben will play better once he gets into game shape.
I did watch parts of the game and the team that played less lousy won. Dale is right, though. When he, beef, or I make honest, objective, congratulatory statements, it?s like like Spanish inquisition.

I was pretty sure when I wrote the original question it would become an issue....maybe it still will, MoS hasnt chimed in yet....
I didn't say a word dicussing the week 1 game about any excuses. But I do think there's a difference in Culpepper throwing 2 picks that cost you guys the game and Ricardo Coclough fumbling the kickoff at the 9, and Verron Haynes coughing it up at the thirty. Stupid mistakes that I'm sure both players will get drilled this week for. Yes, Ben threw 3 picks, but none of those interceptions were key to the loss (IMO). One was a pass that was underthrown (his injury & he slipped and fell as he threw it), the other was at the end of the game. Desperation does change things a bit, and the other one was just plain bad, it was in the end zone when we should have been running the ball. But the first one didn't cost us the game. The two fumbles were much more key to the loss. Can't really blame it on the defense. 6 sacks, 2 picks, and a fumble recovery is pretty damn good.

What I do find interesting is that this was the first thing mentioned by SF. Freudian slip? This is precisely what has the three of us so peeved IMO. We offer our honest, candid interpretation like SF has done yet out come the lynch mobs. Nothing the three of us say will ever make a damn bit of difference as some of you already have your minds made up, your perception is out of whack, or your just inherently biased against the phins. At one point, I liked the exchange of ideas on this site and possibly learning something about another team. Yet, its turned into a bunch of inflexible, stubborn, half-wits seeing who can "yell" the loudest, longest, and be the most biased! Frankly the frustration is no longer worth my time or alleged sanity.
i never thought him to be that good. he did what he needed to to win games. I think his recent injuries have a had a major effect on his play, but well see him back to himself soon enough
I didn't mean to suggest that SF was offering excuses. In fact, I think I said in my post that I hadn't seen the game and was reserving judgement. I was just trying to poke fun at the fact that if a Dolphin fan had made a similar comment that we probably would never hear the end of it. That is what I felt after the bashing we took after the Dolphins-Steelers game. That's all I meant and I intended for it to be humorous, not to upset anyone.

That taunting penalty on Mike Logan after he leveled the Bengals long snapper.
