<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (porky88)</div><div class='quotemain'>I give Simms credit. He took a lot of hits and came back and Tampa nearly won. He's proven in my opinion to be tough with this. From what I heard he's doing well.</div>
so what if he dies during the game? and thats beign tough? you made a good point, but there is a difference between tough and stupid

Use your noodle fro. If anybody knew that Simms' spleen was an issue they would have yanked him and thrown him the back of an ambulance.

Whoever hit Simms got a big fine levied on him today... Not big enough, but big nevertheless.

I'll have to disagree on this one. My understanding coming out of that game was that the Bucs did a horrible job of protecting Simms and he took a beating all day long. The NFL has said that, while they are fining Al Wallace for falling on Simms, that they believe that Simms had clearly been injured earlier in the game. I need to see the play again, but I didn't see anything totally outrageous. I believe that, like Trent Green, Chris Simms is simply the victim of playing a rough and dangerous game. NFL teams pay defenders to go out and make the hits and tackles and if they don't then they are unemployed. I think it's a bit pollyannish to think that they can be in total control of every tackle that they make. I really don't think Al Wallace was trying to hurt Simms. If Wallace broke a rule and deserves a fine then give him the fine, but I think to hit him with a bigger fine is to make him a scapegoat. I hate that Chris got hurt, but this is football.

"pollyanish"? Cut it out with the 50 cent words. Chip and BA need to be able to understand the posts here too. :stupid:

well when he can barely stand up, isn't that a red flag? or when hes so banged up that the bucs didn't trust him throw, you know something is wrong.

I'm not sure where you intend going with this, but I'll be glad to play along.

He (Simms) went to the bench and received treatment for what he and they thought was causing the pain. As an aside, you may not know this, but being hit in the nuts will make it so you can barely stand, and that a major calf cramp can bring a grown man to his knees. You certainly aren't implying that every time a player has trouble standing that we should assume major internal hemorrhage and injury, are you. According to Gruden, "We checked between every series. He was in some pain. He did get hit early in the game, as a lot of players do, and return to play." So Gruden is lying? Should he (Gruden) have assumed major internal injury to his QB since the QB didn't seem to think it was anything more than the normal hits and pains of playing professional sports? Simms sat out a while and then chose to re-enter the game. We?re not talking about a fourteen year-old freshman quarterback. This is a grown man being paid to play the game with all its inherent risks and rewards. Other than obvious injury, if he says he can play, he can play.

As I said, I'll play along.

so if your qB has trouble standing your gonna play him nonetheless. (regardless of a serious injury). Even if he wasn't injured why play a Qb who could barely move? You'd be better off with a backup who could play at 100%

Again, you are assuming knowledge of the nature of the injury by the player and staff. It was reported on CBS this AM that the outward symptoms and signs for that spleen injury mimic those of dehydration. If the player isn?t complaining of other symptoms, how would the staff know that there is such a rare injury?

Whether Simms is/was the best option on the bench at any given time in the game is a topic for debate? and you can be sure that the topic was debated on the sideline by people who get paid (a lot) to make those decisions in real-time.

well, if you read my post, I wasn't assuming on the knowledge of the injury by player and staff. I just think when your QB can't harldy stand up, then it might be a good idea to bench him. but you do have a good point about the coaches and such...
