QUOTE

If I'm Baron Davis, I realize that there is no $50M extension coming. Maybe a short, clean $25M deal, but a fat $50M is out the window. Do you reward a great playoff run with 50M? Not sure. But I root for a cheap team (in the Nets).
-Petey

Yea 25 mill is ok to me but giving him 50 is not right. I don't think he deserves that even though he played good last year and in the playoff run they had.
If you were to pick one player on the Warriors who make or breaks the team, it's Davis. They won't win much without him there, that much is certain. As for how much he's worth, not sure.
LETS
GO
WARRIORS!!!

Davids deserves to be here throughout his prime, playing in front of fans that revere him... but is there any precedent of a point guard with so many physical problems being an ironman at this stage in his career? Th human body is weird enough that I'm sure there is, but I can't think of who...

I wouldnt reward Davis with a $50 mil contract, this guy is always injured and when he comes back from injuries he usually plays a couple of games and then goes back on the DL.....last year his health held up but I wouldnt put any money on him staying healthy for an entire season.

QUOTE (custodianrules2)

If he has a career ending injury or just doesn't feel like playing, we're screwed.

agreed. in a way, he deserves it, but with his injury history, there's a bigger possibility of him not earning it the rest of his career.
I think his contract should be based on how many games we actually expect him to play. He's the face of the franchise yeah, but there's also the matter that if he hogs most of the payroll (like an Allen Iverson), then we can't surround him with better talent because we'll have to nickel and dime everything just to resemble something of a complete team. Unlike the Nelson coaching situation, the rules of the CBA apply to how much we can spend on a roster before blockbuster FA signings, sign and trade become nearly impossible or we get thrown in the tax penalty which is extremely costly. We lose our competitiveness to go after other free agents and find the players we need to win.
