QUOTE

Sep 17 - The win gives Russia its first European title since the former Soviet Union won in 1985 as Spain failed to become only the third team to reign as world and European champions for the first time.

But for the Raptors, the fact Jose Calderon played so well in the two-week event and that Jorge Garbajosa got through it with no more damage to his still-healing broken leg, had to be seen as good news.

"He's definitely not 100 per cent but he's fighting as he plays more with his brain and heart than with a body that still needs work and time," Raptor assistant general manager Maurizio Gherardini said of Garbajosa in an email. "He seems to get better game-by-game and that's encouraging but he will have to be monitored closely up to the start of our training camp."

I was in shock when Spain lost. I thought for sure they could win. They are so well rounded and a great team. However, Russia is a very skilled club, they have depth and great ball movement. AK47 needs some props to. If I'm a Utah fan, I'm think his play at Euro Basket is good in 2 ways:

[*]He can be good trade bait, because now that teams see he can still score and play defense, they are more willing to give up a better player[*]Or, he comes out with Utah and has a great season, and goes back o the old AK47[/list]
