QUOTE

First-round picks from the 2004 draft are eligible to sign new contracts that will kick in for the 2008-09 season. This could be the source of some stress for the Bulls, who selected SG Ben Gordon and SF Luol Deng in '04 and now will have to give them raises. The extension market has already been set pretty high. Gordon will want something in the range of Kings SG Kevin Martin's contract (five years, $55 million) and changed agents to help him get it. Deng, who looks like a future All-Star, should get even more.

I can't imagine the bulls letting either one walk. I know that Paxson wants more size at SG, but there is no way he is letting one of these guys go w/o getting something in return. Chicago is also as big of a market as they come and can afford to pay these players.

He didn't let Curry go for nothing but he did with Crawford and Chandler... err... maybe he did, though one can argue they generated cap space. In any case, the point I was going to make was Paxson isn't exactly shy about pulling hitting the trap door button if he doesn't like the price. I think the costs (in terms of competitiveness) of some of these moves haven't been borne out on the court due to a variety of factors, but that doesn't mean the Bulls can go on trading away good players forever and get away with it.

This team is better off with out Crawful and Eddy MCcurry Tyson was way overpaid.

And is gordon reallllly worth that much?? A undersized SG who cant dribble defend or pass... But hey hes clutch and gets 20ppg what more can you want???

I'd love to see both of them back, but I'm betting Gordon is going to get packaged a S&T. Honestly though, if Pax lets Deng walk, I will be VERY angry. The way he's developing, he could be a top 10 player (at least out East) here very soon.

I think Gordon goes in a S&T or some other kind of trade, too.

I agree, his [Gordon's] worth is not nearly as much as Luol Deng's. That has been proven by the amount of clubs showing their interest by mid-season the previous term.

on a side note, IMO, Tyson is a great defender and rebounder. I think Tyson was paid the right price, maybe just a little bit too much.

anyways....Gordon could be worth that much. especially if Kevin Martin, who is practically the same type of player as Gordon but prolly not as good, gets that big of a contract.

No way Tyson was worth that money, after he signed he could barely stay on the court due to fitness and foul problems He was only ever good at blocking shots off the weakside and could never defend his man straight up.Gordon goes in S&T sometime this season or next season

As early as this year, I'd much prefer Chandler to Wallace.

It's pretty amazing that everyone seems to see the writing on the wall with Gordon. I think the question is just how it goes down. We're so close in other areas I hope a trade can go down that gives us some more immediate help (EG a Kobe type trade) rather than a "future assets" trade (Crawford, Curry) or plain old salary dump (Chandler).

Chandler got paid what the market was paying. Look at what dalembert got and look what we paid for Big Ben

I can't see how Paxson can justify not bringing back the two best players on the team, especially the best Bulls player since Jordan (Gordon), and the guy who was the leader of our resurgence.

Chandler and Crawford trades are completely unacceptable, as is a type trade. The Curry trade was nice as it netted us two frontcourt pieces, but we can't be trading away our best player now, that we are looking to win a championship, not just make the playoffs.

BEN GORDON WILL NOT BE SIGN AND TRADED.

That will not be how it works with Gordon. He will be offered an offer sheet, he'll sign, and its up to the Bulls to match or let him go.

Charlotte is my favorite in the Gordon offer sheet chase. Jordan had some connection to Gordon before he became a part owner or whatever of the Bobcats a few years ago I believe. He's a natural fit at the point guard on the team, giving them PG- Ben Gordon SG- Jason Richardson SF- Gerald Wallace PF- Sean May C- Emeka Okafor, good role players like Raymond Felton, Adam Morrison, Walter Hermann off the bench. Obvious fit.

My darkhorse for Gordon, is San Antonio going ahead and clearing the capspace to bring him in, to build a core of Parker-Gordon-Ginobli-Splitter-Duncan.

But I think there will definitely be no sign and trade, and I think Gordon will get signed this offseason...but not Deng. We still have over a month on these things.

Once again, why is Gordon going to agree to a sign and trade? He won't be in that top max range, so it won't be a matter of squeezing out more money that way. If the Bobcats are his main suitor like everything seems to be leading up to, they can offer him up to the max, and offer him more than anything the Bulls in theory would be offering.

There will be no Gordon sign and trade. It will be sign him, or let him walk. If Paxson wants to put the Bulls back in the lottery, and let the Bobcats climb up to the top of the Eastern Conference, than by all means, let Gordon walk.

i'd love to see Joe Johnson on the Nets, too. he's such an overlooked player, i think he has the possibility to become a superstar.

and i see what you're saying with Martin. the'll also throw money at Mikki, too. their owners are ridiculous...you've gotta wonder what they're doing there.

but i still think Gordon deserves the money that Martin got. i believe he is a better player than Martin all-around, and whether he's with the Bulls or not, i could see him making a few all-star games.
