QUOTE

The Miami Heat announced today that they have signed guard Charlie Bell to an
offer sheet. Under NBA rules, the Milwaukee Bucks now have seven days to match
the offer or the restricted free agent will be a member of the Heat. Per team
policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bell, a 6’3”, 200-pound guard, appeared in all 82 games (64 starts) for the
Bucks last season and averaged 13.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.18
steals and 34.7 minutes. A three-year NBA veteran, Bell began his NBA career
after signing with the Phoenix Suns as an undrafted free agent on July 23, 2001.
In addition to playing for the Suns and Bucks, he also saw action with the
Dallas Mavericks during the 2001-02 season. For his career he has averaged 10.9
points, 2.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 28.2 minutes while shooting 43.7 percent
from the floor and 75.7 percent from the foul line.

At that price? No doubt. At worst he would have a very friendly/ easy to move contract. They can use it to dump Yi later. [IMG]

It's good for the Heat...but the Bucks should match.

The offer is 18.5 mil over 5 years. Hadn't seen it mentioned in the thread yet. Hadn't seen a link yet, either.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3024641

He's made some interesting comments about his desire to stay in Milwaukee:

QUOTE (Charlie Bell)

This summer has been long and trying for me and my family with many ups and downs. I am grateful for the offer by milwaukee last week and I was willing to accept it with a minor change. But the ultimatum and take it or leave it approach permanently poisened me and changed my desire to even be in Milwaukee anymore. I know that because my heart is no longer there I will not be able to be the player they want or need. They could offer me 10 million dollars/yr now and it would not change my heart. I can't play to the best of my ability if I'm miserable. I can't sabotage myself or a team like that. The Bucks will sign a player whose heart will be with the team. Good luck this season.

    http://bucksfans.blogspot.com/2007/09/char...-continues.html

So what happens if they do match the sheet? Holdout? Maybe he signs in Europe? Either Milwaukee is going to back down (and they didn't with Yi), or this is going to get interesting...

Bang on Jigga... Charlie Bell and a lot of other NBA players need to realise who they are and what they mean to their respective teams...

The way some carry on you'd think they were all posting Kevin Garnett numbers...

The deal is a bargain, so they have to match.

They can easily trade him if he refuses to play for them.

yeah the bucks should match it right away, if not then good pickup for miami. i am still shocked that Bell was on the market this long, i know the bucks can match so that has be a reason for him being on the market but he is a nice player who i thought teams would try to pick up quickly when free agency started

well, Mikki DID have that huge game against Garnett...

that contract is fine for Bell, and for Milwaukee. If it's not matched, Harris should be fired.

After the Yi thing, Harris will match and Bell will have to be the bigger man. You'll hear a lot of jibberish, it was heat of the moment, I was mad, but I'm professional, I'm here, blah, blah, blah.

No so sure. There could be a sign and trade. Miami WAY over the luxury tax now. Lots of dead weight on the Heat roster. Bucks get something back rather than losing Bell for nothing.

would Milwaukee want any expiring contracts (ex. Jason Williams)?

For my fantasy team's sake I hope Bell goes to Miami as I want Mo Williams to play as much as his body will allow but for a real-life basketball standpoint if he goes to Miami it'll be pretty huge for them and worse for us therefor I want Milwaukee to match quite badly.

Bell's a guy who helps any team he's on and I nearly spit my drink out my nose from the absurdity of one article I saw on HoopsHype about the "glut" of guards they have. There is no Glut. Bell would immeditaely become the best guard not named Wade on that squad and make a very very dangerous backcourt combination that we would have no answer for.

If I was the Bucks, I will let Miami sign Bell, he had a break out season mainly because of Bobby Simons going down. Look at Bell's stats he avergaged 8.4 pts with 21 mins of play and 13.5 pts with 34.7 mins. With Miami, I doubt Bell will see more that 15 mins of game time especially with Wade averaging 37.6 mins

Once the offer sheet is signed, the S&T possibility is gone

even if bell would end up in miami i am not sure of what to make of the team. they obviously have one of the top players in wade, but hes coming off an injury.. they have an older shaq who unlike kidd does not maintain the same level of play throughout the year and they have lost guys like posey, kapono, jones and have gained hardaway, smush and alexander johnson that i can recall. those additions do not scare me at all nor do i think they upgraded themselves. williams missed like 20games or so last year, antoine walker will get more playing time and other teams have improved their team, at least on paper (which we know means nothing once the season starts). bell will help, but overall i think miami took a step back an this could be the last year shaq has in him. who even knows how many games shaq will play in.

ps, hey cpaw. whats up man? any update on kenyon out there in denver?

ummm....Wade and Bell are both combo guards. i don't see why they wouldn't be playing together, since they can both bring the ball up the court and run the team pretty well. they should both get more minutes than any other guard on the team, since they are significantly better (especially in Wade's case).

The strength and conditioning coach for the Nuggets is extrememly confident that Kenyon will be back at full strength
