QUOTE

"I don't see my future with the Utah Jazz team"

“I didn’t tell anybody this earlier but a couple of weeks ago I spoke with General Manager Kevin O’Conner. I told him that I don’t see myself on the team and I want to leave. It is perfectly clear that Utah and I differently see my place & role on the team. I don’t’ want me and my contract to be a burden to the team and I hope that the team can go on its own way. It is their choice. And I have only one request – give me the chance to go the way I want to go."

Not surprising, but at the same time a smart move on AK47's part. He led Russian to the Euro Basketball title, and looked like the AK of old. I'm sure Utah wouldn't mind unloading his salary and splitting it on two quality players.

It's going to be tough for them to get a team to take on AK47 without taking back another large contract in return.

How about sending him to Indiana for Jermaine O'neal?

Why would Utah trade for such an expensive backup to Boozer and Okur?

Okur would come off the bench with the addition of JO. Having three quality big men in the West would be an advantage for Utah in the regular season and post season.

    PG - Deron
    SG - Giricek
    SF - Harpring
    PF - Boozer
    C - JO

How would JO get in Boozer's way on offense? He shoots a lot from midrange these past few seasons.

JON doesn't start from the midrange. He ends up in the midrange because of his soft fade aways

I'm surprised no one has brought up the potential hilarity of JON playing for Sloan

ya, if anyone, it'd be okur...and that'd be funny to see on defense.

how bout instead of stenko kirlenko for JON, trade him for a good SG who can shoot well...? (i don't have a name in mind, but that's what the Jazz need)

No surprise really. Other teams should be very cautious to take him on. Kirilenko has a max contract, and gets upset easily. He alsowants to be one of the main options on offense, but his offense is nothing special. In saying that though, there's no doubt he can play better than what he did last season and should make your team a lot better defensively. He's a very unique player, can fill up the stat sheet and has been an all star.

When it comes to a trade, the Jazz are set at point guard, power forward and centre. They should go after a shooting guard or small forward, preferably shooting guard. You can improve on Millsap and Harpring, but theywouldn't be a bad combination at small forward. Millsap would also get more minutes competing with Harpring than Boozer too. Harpring is coming off surgery, and has an injury history however. The shooting guard situation needs something done. Utah have a logjam of average shooting guards, and Giricek is the only one with anyreal experience. The Jazz have picks and Ronnie Brewer to use as trade bait in a Kirilenko trade if required.

I agree. I mentioned in another thread that guys like Mike Miller or J.R. Smith might work. I also said that the Twolves might be willing to take him for some of the castoffs they got for KG. He'd get to be the first option in Minny too.

But I suppose Utah wouldn't want to trade AK to anywhere within the division, so Memphis might be the most realistic, especially if they could get a young player like Rudy Gay thrown in there. Philadelphia also has quite a few pieces they're trying to unload in a rebuilding process, where no one's untouchable except maybe AI.

The Jazz clearly need a shooting guard.

If they trade AK, it should be for one of those.

    Any other speculation is crazy.

I know there's no position for him on the Jazz, but is anyone concerned about the frontcourt defense without the big eraser in there to let Boozer and Okur concentrate on the offensive end?

AK is only a so-so man defender, but his help defense is all but irreplaceable.

    Update:

QUOTE

Kirilenko Wants Out Sep 19 - According to an online translation, Andrei Kirilenko called coach Jerry Sloan a "legend". But he wrote that for him, Sloan's "style and system is not suitable."

Kirilenko indicated that he has voiced his desire to be traded to Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor.

Trading Kirilenko would not be easy since he is a "max-money" player whose contract runs through the 2010-11 season. His play in the European championships, however, may increase his trade value. -- Deseret Morning News

[*]"In a week, I need to join the Utah Jazz again, but quite frankly, I'm not really happy about that," wrote Kirilenko, who was named MVP of the EuroBasket tournament. "The past season was bad for me and I was really disappointed.

[*]

"I've thought about it a lot and I came to a decision. I want to leave Utah Jazz. The European championships that just ended became sort of a test for me and now I think I know what I want to do."

[*]

O'Connor said Tuesday that he had spoken with Kirilenko but declined to comment on what was said.

[*]

"What you're trying to do is overall look at the success he's had with us," O'Connor said. "He has a long-term contract with us and I don't think we would have given him a contract like that if we weren't confident he'd be here." -- Salt Lake Tribune

[*]Kirilenko has to report to camp by Oct. 1, otherwise he risks being fined or suspended. The Jazz are going to take their time and work any deal for the right return on a player who at 26 should be entering the prime of his career.

[*]

It does seem absolutely inevitable that the Jazz will trade Kirilenko, sooner rather than later. But Kirilenko would have been better served coming out with this at the start of summer, rather than the middle of September. -- Salt Lake Tribune
