The Rockets have decided to pick up their team option for Luther Head's fourth season (source). That means Luther won't be a free agent in the coming summer, and the Rockets can keep him for another year at a bargain price (1.96 million). We all know Luther has his deficiencies, but he's still a lights out shooter and that has real value.
Morey said the following: "We'll definitely pick up his option. He is worth more with his option picked up, and he is a part of our plans for the future." It's really a no brainer for the Rockets. If we want to keep him, there's no point letting him walk as a free agent this summer, and if we want to trade him we can increase his trade value with the extra year. I think Luther is a coveted player around the league, and lots of teams would love to him have him for a couple years while he's still on his rookie contract.
My gut tells me that Rafer and/or Luther will be gone by the trade deadline. A couple months ago, I would have said that they'd be gone training camp, but that's looking less likely.

i'd say if the Rockets do trade Alston, they would have to give up Head or a player of similar value as well.
I was wondering when the Rockets would pick up on this. Head was a steal for the Rockets, he's a great shooter, and seeing the "We want Head" signs is priceless.
