    ATLANTA (Ticker) - Prince Fielder is having a remarkableSeptember but the month will not be so enjoyable if theMilwaukee Brewers fail to make it to the playoffs.

    Fielder will look to continue his current hitting streak whenthe Brewers visit the Atlanta Braves on Thursday in the openerof a four-game series.


    Milwaukee enters the contest trailing the Chicago Cubs (80-73)by just one game in the National League Central.


    The 23-year-old Fielder, who is one of the top contenders to winthe NL Most Valuable Player Award, has a hit in every game thismonth. The lefthanded slugger is 21-for-57 (.368) with eighthome runs and 15 RBI over 17 games in September. Fielder isbatting .291 with 47 blasts and 112 RBI this season.

    The Brewers will send righthander Jeff Suppan (10-11, 4.73 ERA)to the mound. The 2006 NLCS MVP is also having an impressivemonth, going 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA over three starts.

    Jeff Bennett (NR), who had his contract purchased from Class AAARichmond on Wednesday, takes the mound for the Braves. Therighthander has not pitched in the majors since going 1-5with a 4.79 ERA in 60 relief outings in 2004.


    Atlanta, which sits 5 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres(84-67) in the wild card race, has won four consecutive games.

    ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers will need PrinceFielder to continue his offensive onslaught for 10 more days ifthey want to reach the postseason for the first time in 25years.


    Fielder and the Brewers look to narrow their deficit in theNational League Central Division when they continue a four-gameseries with the Atlanta Braves on Friday.


    The Brewers, who trail the Chicago Cubs (80-73) by 1 1/2 gamesin the division, have lost back-to-back games - including a 3-1loss to the Braves in Thursday's series opener.


    Fielder, a top candidate for the league MVP, had his 17-game hitstreak snapped in the contest. The slugging first basemanstill leads the NL with 47 home runs and is fourth with 112 RBI.

    The 23-year-old Fielder already owns the Brewers' single-seasonrecord for homers and needs 14 RBI to tie the franchise RBI markfor Milwaukee, which has not appeared in the playoffs since1982.


    Milwaukee gives the ball to righthander Carlos Villanueva (8-4,4.11 ERA) on Friday.


    Villanueva, who has won two of his last three starts, allowedsix hits over seven scoreless innings in his last outing Sunday.The 23-year-old struck out four and walked three, leadingMilwaukee to a 5-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

    Atlanta counters with Tim Hudson (16-8, 3.33), who reboundedfrom three straight losses by tossing his 10th career shutout inhis last start.


    Hudson was masterful in his outing on Sunday, allowing justseven hits while striking out four against the WashingtonNationals. The righthander logged seven strong innings to winhis only outing vs. Milwaukee this season and owns a 2-1 recordin four career starts against the Brewers.

    ATLANTA (Ticker) - The Milwaukee Brewers look to cut into theirdeficit in the National League Central when they take on theAtlanta Braves in the third game of a four-game series onSaturday afternoon.


    Milwaukee, which has won five of its past seven games, iscurrently 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs in theNL Central.


    Atlanta still has some faint playoff hopes as it sits 5 1/2games behind the New York Mets (85-68) in the NL East. TheBraves also are 5 1/2 games back of the San Diego Padres (85-68)in the wild card standings.


    The Brewers will be sending one of their hottest pitchers oflate in Yovani Gallardo (9-4, 3.66 ERA) to the mound. Therookie righthander has won his last four starts, including anouting where he pitched eight scoreless innings against Houstonon Monday. The 21-year-old currently has pitched 21 straightinnings without allowing a run.


    The Braves counter with their veteran ace, John Smoltz (14-7,2.97). The 40-year-old righthander has won his last twodecisions which includes a victory over Florida on Monday inwhich he allowed one run over six innings. Smoltz has facedMilwaukee once this year, giving up three runs and eight hits in3 1/3 innings on May 29.


    The Braves had won five games in a row before their 4-1 defeatto Milwaukee on Friday. The Brewers rallied for three runs inthe eighth inning against Tim Hudson to keep pace in their pushto make the postseason for the first time in 25 years.

    ATLANTA (Ticker) - The Milwaukee Brewers turn to Chris Capuanofor their most important game of the season.


    Capuano and the Brewers will both look to turn things around asthey look for a split in their four-game series with the AtlantaBraves on Sunday.


    Milwaukee dropped a 4-3 decision in 11 innings on Saturday tofall 2 1/2 games behind the National League Central-leadingChicago Cubs. Chicago beat the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-2,on Saturday afternoon.


    As they try to secure their first postseason berth since 1982,the Brewers put their hopes in Capuano (5-12, 5.21 ERA), whowould like to put a happy ending on a frustrating season.

    An 18-game winner in 2005, Capuano is in the midst of a horridstretch, having not won since May 7. In that span, he is 0-12with a 5.49 ERA in 20 appearances, including 16 starts.

    The lefthander Capuano will be making his first start sinceAugust 19, when he gave up five runs and nine hits in 6 1/3innings but did not figure in a 7-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

    The Braves counter with rookie Jo-Jo Reyes (1-2, 6.98), whoearned his first major league victory in his last start.

    Against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday, the 22-year-oldlefthander allowed a run and three hits in five innings,striking out seven in a 4-3 win.


    The rookie has never faced Milwaukee.
