http://sports.espn.go.com/espnradio...hive?id=2669425 Chad Ford chats with John Hollinger on 9/19 (click that podcast in link above). If you skip to 8:40, Hollinger talks for a few minutes about the Rockets as the team with the most impressive offseason.
I'll listen to that later (can't do it at work), but my first sarcastic thought when reading this is
"Gee what a surprise that a stat geek and poor analyst like Hollinger likes what Morey has done"

He does admit that he's somewhat biased, though not in that way. From the APBRmetrics board:

QUOTE ("John Hollinger)

I may be biased on this, because I was in the arena for Game 7 when McGrady either scored or assisted on all but **nine** of their baskets, but I thought they were crying out like mad for additional scorers and succeeded wildly. T-Mac is good, but if he's leading the league in Usage Rate something is very wrong. Last year that something was named Rafer.

I said it before, but I don't think there's much not to like about what the Rockets have done this offseason. Of course they're not perfect, but it's not like they had a ton of options for improving themselves. They brought in a bunch of talent without losing any of their core players, and they didn't take on any ridiculous contracts either.

Then the overrating is ridiculous.

QUOTE (cpawfan)

It appears that there is little chance of you and I agreeing on much.

That's ok. Message boards would be pretty boring without disagreements.
The thing is, Hollinger is one of the few NBA writers who actually offers fact-based analysis. I can disagree with the conclusions from time to time (rarely, his analysis tends to be spot on), but his argument is always clearly expressed and consistent.

When he does backwards looking analysis, I'll read it. However, he spends far too much time attempting to do forward looking analysis and it then isn't fact-based as he makes assumptions to plug into his model(s). The making assumptions part is where he is piss poor which results in piss poor conclusion.

When other sports writers making predictions, it's usually some nebulous combination of reputation, recent performance, and personal bias. Hollinger's predictions are better substantiated, and based on a consistent, logically constructed models. I think his predictions are pretty accurate too, considering the inherent uncertainties in sports.
p.s. sorry I accidentally edited your post (hit Edit instead of Quote)

Don't need to mention Scola. Also the Francis signing is a plus as well. I guess you didn't like the AB pick, but we did pick up Carl Landry from Seattle...I really don't understand wha's so bad about this summer, especially when the majority of the "analysts" seem to think we did very well over the summer.

I ask myself the same question Foo.......Anywayz I'm back! I like our chances this year. The first thing we did was get rid of JVG, in which some of you didnt want but the best thing we could'vedone. Then we hired Adelman, the best possible candidate for our team. Then we re-signed Bonzi which I think was a very smart move (being that JVG banned him from the team). At first I was against Aaron Brooks draft pick, but after seeing him DESTROY summer league, I'd have to say he's gonna be a monster. I've always liked Francis's heart and energy. But he's probably the WORST decision maker in Rockets history. Maybe Adelman can get the best outta him, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Scola was pretty impressive in the Olympics, but we'll have to see how he'll play in a 82 game season. Overrall, we have a GREAT offseason considering we had close to nothin to give up. Luther Head might raise his eyebrows with a more open offensive system.
NOTE: Let's not forget about Snyder....I think he'll be the most improved player this year if given the opportunity. The uptempo style will definatley benefit him.

Especially with Bonzi "coming back" and Head resigning. I think Head would be more useful offensively since Snyder is not a very good shooter. I really want to see Snyder succeed, but I just don't think he will be given much of an opportunity.
