QUOTE

Nets Look At Houston
Sep 20 - Allan Houston took another step toward his attempted comeback yesterday, scrimmaging with a group of young players at the Nets' practice facility near the Meadowlands.

But his agent suggested the shooting guard might prefer to return to the Knicks. Houston has also worked out at the Knicks' facility in Greenburgh several times recently, according to the agent, Bill Strickland.

Jason Kidd, who played with Houston during the 2000 Olympics, said yesterday that he is supposed to play golf with him this week. But Kidd said he has no intention of turning a relaxing day on the links into a business-like recruiting visit on behalf of the Nets -- he has already had that talk with Houston recently. -- New York Daily News

[*]The Nets definitely are interested in having Houston come to camp on a "make-good" contract and are not inclined to offer any guarantees. Houston's camp, obviously, wants a guaranteed deal in place. Other teams have shown interest, and the overriding feeling is the Knicks would get first shot at Houston, a career 17.3 scorer including 18.5 in his nine seasons in New York.

"I think he's trying to determine what he'd like to do," said Nets president Rod Thorn. "That's where we are. He hasn't said anything about coming on [a non-guaranteed] basis." -- New York Post
