So I wasn't a fan of hip hop shows live...

Last night the Roots played a three hour set at the House of Blues here in Nawlins and I really gained a new respect for live hip hop. I'd been to Crunkfest, a few Three Six shows, etc., but nothing compared to these guys.

Biz Markee (sp?) and Big Daddy Kane were also on the bill.

Then Mos Def, one of the few hip hop artists today I listen to religiously like the Roots, came out and did 10-15 songs with them. It was a few of his songs, a few of the Roots, and a lot of hip hop classics.

Anyway, just wanted to say that if anyone ever has a chance to see the Roots, kill for the tickets if you have to, because they put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen (and I've seen A LOT of live shows).

I'm going to see Lil Wayne play in a few hours though, and that could make me hate live hip hop again.

    Voodoo! Where you been bro?

Yeah, hip hop tends to suck live because most rappers skip over words and halfass their performances. Hopefully Lil Wayne puts on a good show. I remember when he came to Tampa with Young Jeezy a few weeks ago, everyone said it was pretty good.

I've been busy with school and basketall, Swish. We merged with s2 my first weekend of practices. I'll be back full-time soon though.

And I'm 50/50 on even going to Lil Wayne after last night. I've got a date, but I might just take her to the French quarter and scalp my tickets. The only thing holding me back from doing that is that it's a New Orleans show, so you know he'll bring his A game.

I love the music down here. It's just a few moreweeks till Rage Against the Machine, Common, Kings of Leon, Smashing Pumpkins, etc. raid the city for Voodoo Fest.

BTW - Shape, what's Okay Player, a tour? A lot of the guys listed under the "artists" section of the website were at the show last night, like Skillz, Mos Def, and of course, the Roots.

Hey Voodoo, long time no see. How is basketball anyway?

I love the Roots. I wanna see them live, but I'll have to go to the States. Maybe since the dollar is equal, I go down there. Lil Wayne should be great, because like you said, he is in New Orleans, so I expect a big show from him.

Definitely go see Weezy then. I didn't think about the New Orleans thing. He'll definitely put on a great show then.

Kinda OT - have any of you heard the song Dufflebag Boy by Weezy? It's so different from his usual stuff, I'm not feeling it all.

VC - Okay Player is a concert tour with a collaboration of artists coming out of the Roots camp. It's always a random lineup of artists, but everyone I've been to has been amazing. The Roots are always the headliner, and you'll have artists like GURU, Talib, Mos Def, Dead Prez, Common, Eryka Badu, Super Natural, Cody Chestnut etc. all coming out and performing.

They have the live bands and some shows I've been to the band will battle against the live DJ.

The Roots came up to Dartmouth last year and I caught them then. Amazing show. Hey voodoo did Captain Kirk perform a solo? That guy can rip it.

The Roots are coming down here soon (or maybe they've been I dunno), although they're not playing a show in my city (which is why I dunno if they've been or not, lol)

I keep missing them when they come to Atlanta. Did they do any covers when you saw them?

I saw the Roots like 8 years ago and it's still the best show I've been to.

I saw the Roots a while back and was impressed but I think the greatest hip-hop performance I've seen is Eminem on the side stage at Warp tour. Yeah the was really long ago but he killed it. Had a giant mushroom and everything.

I have not seen a *radio hip hop star* live but I have seen some underground and I love it. The emotion is reallly what I want to see. If they can get the crowd involved while still sounding like good quality hip hop it makes it a good show. I really want Outkast to tour so I can see one of their shows....but man I envy you for seeing The Roots AND Mos-Def in the same show. That must have been awesome
