QUOTE

Josh (Boston ,MA): What are the chances the Lakers pick up AK47 using Kwame Browns expiring contract and perhaps unloading Vladmir in the process. And would he work in the triangle

[IMG]David Thorpe: No idea. But he would be good in that system.

I'd pull the trigger on this deal immediately, but I'm sure Utah would prefer sending him to an Eastern Conference team. However, Utah was willing to trade him to Phoenix for Marion, so if the situation continues to escalate in Utah with AK47, maybe the Lakers can get involved in a deal?

I'm never very impressed with Thorpe's analysis. Ever. He is right that Kirilenko would work in that system, especially as that would shore up LA's defense, and make Kobe more of a steals threat than he already is. But that deal would never work. No one wants Kwame Brown, and Vlad and his own expiring contract isn't going to make anyone part with a major player. Sure the Jazz are trying to unload Andrei, but I don't think they want anymore bigs. They want 2's and 3's, and neither Brown nor Vlad is effective in those roles.

You're right the deal would never work from Utah's point of view, which is why I'd be all for it from a Laker point of view. LOL.

I think Thorpe's analysis are short and to the point. Hard to argue his track record, and even though he might have a lot of bias comments based on his clients, I think it's part of his job. I do listen to what he has to say about what players to look out for and what developments they are making under his training camp. He's one of the best out there from what I know.

To be perfectly honest, AK47 can fit in to any system in my opinion and have success. He's just a dynamic player and his impact on defense sets him apart from a lot of players in the league. Where I think he's struggled in Utah is adjusting to playing at small forward. He doesn't have the post game to use his height advantage there, and his ability to get around players at power forward is neutralized against quicker small forwards. He's not a natural 4, but he's most effective there and a team who can play to his strengths by having another versatile forward on the court would allow AK47 to set new career highs. Teaming him up alongside Odom is perfect.

I like AK47, but his lack of mental toughness scares me away. I remember there were reports going around last season that he was crying during the playoffs because of lack of playing time or something. He didn't play like the AK47 of old last season at all. He seemed to have lost all confidence in himself, and was just basically down for the entire season. And now there are reports of him leaving the Jazz to go to Europe. I think he is a great talent, but we already have enough of these "pussy" type of players who shrink down in big situations, and AK47 just seems like another one of those type of players. I wouldn't mind acquiring him at all if he took a pay cut, but not with the amount of money he's being paid now

All good reasons not to want him here, but the proposed trade is hard to pass up. Look at it this way, we'd trade two 'pussy' type players (Kwame, Space Cadet) for one. LOL.

I'll take him but I really do doubt that Utah would trade him For Kwame and Radman and i think that he will fit in the system but then again will the fornt office try to make a trade for him.

All I know is we need something done this season. I'm really praying Kwame will wake up knowing this could be possibly his career ending season right here... If he plays the way he did last season, he's going to be begging for a job in the NBA next year.
