I can't find less offensive words to talk about how they are doing us, the NFL fans. I won't get a chance to watch the Broncos-Chiefs game and odds are that you won't either. The NFL Network is charging more than most cable providers are will to pay in order to carry the live games that they have been hyping all season. That's crap. You can't tell me that the NFL isn't getting enough money from beer and car companies to bring us these football games. I called the phone number that I got from my cable company, INSIGHT, for the NFL Network 1-800-223-3567 but it needs an access code to complete the call. Regardless, I'm going to find a number so I can call the NFL offices and let them know that I will blame them, not the cable company for this mess, which may translate into my avoiding NFL liscensed merchandise when making purchases for awhile. I just thought I would warn you guys that even though you may get the NFL Network there is a good chance that your cable company will be getting alternate programming on that channel rather than pay the excessive fees that the NFL is demanding.
LMAO Dale, you beat me to it! I wanna rant as well. Here's the thing. In order you need to watch the game, you need to get the whole channel and pay for it as well, blah blah blah. What you are paying for is basically 8 games a year. I totally hate this because the NFL and the cable companies have been fighting for this for a while and finally agreed to do it starting this year. What I'm really mad is that for those who want to watch it but can't get a hold of it for financial or personal reasons really lose out. And I'm not sure if it works the same way with Sunday Ticket or with local service. Anyone lives in KC know if they can watch it locally? Otherwise, that is super (sorry for language but) fucked up! And I know how you feel Dale and many of the other fans when they try to get a hold of the NFL Network to speak their mind. I still don't want to pay just to watch 8 games a year. END RANT!!!
Here is a copy of the email that I'm firing off to the NFL Network. They have a link on their page inviting fans to tell them what they think of the network. Dear Sirs, Do you really want to know what I think of the NFL and the NFL Network? I think the guys who are making the decisions regarding the pricing of the NFL games carried on the NFL Network are a bunch of greedy bastards. I know that I'm not going to get to see the Broncos @ Chiefs game because INSIGHT has decided not to pay you extortion money in order to carry them, so I'm going to get stuck with some crappy alternate programming. Is the NFL not getting enough money from beer and car companies that you have to try and squeeze every last dime from your loyal fans? I have a buddy who has the NFL Sunday ticket. I think he pays around $250 dollars a year to get his Chiefs game and the NFL screws him at every corner as well. If the game is being carried local, you black out the Sunday Ticket feed which means he can't get the game in a digital broadcast. To make matters worse, I have your obnoxious scroll going across my screen telling me that my cable company won't be carrying the game, so I can't even enjoy the network's other programming right now. Every time you people run that scroll it just pisses me off that much more. If you think that your propaganda is going to convince me that INSIGHT is the bad guys, please know that I see through your steaming pile of crap and recognize the NFL for the money grubbing organization that it is. On your website, you falsely claim that having the NFL Network means that we will get live NFL games. That's a damn lie. The NFL should be sued for false advertising. How much money do you think your going to make by jacking up these prices? Do you think it will make up for the money you lose from angry fans that will be avoiding NFL merchandise for awhile? Thanks for putting a black spot on my Thanksgiving! Hope your filthy lucre helps you sleep at night. Dale
Supra, my understanding is that we really don't have an option. It's up to the cable company if they are going to pay the NFL's jacked up fees for the live games. The problem is that the NFL is asking for a price that would have to be passed to all cable consumers and cable companies aren't willing to do that because not all of their customers are NFL fans. I'm just getting tired of the NFL trying to squeeze every last dime out of everyone. They don't respect or appreciate their fans.
I'm confused. So you're saying even if you have NFL Network that doesn't necesarily mean you're getting to see these 8 games? I have Comcast & I recently learned that under the basic package I would still have NFL Network at around $20 a month. As opposed to the $70 I'm paying to have MTV, ESPN, & all that other crap.
Will this affect Dish Network subscribers as well? I've been hearing about problems with NFL Network for a while now but I've never had an issue with it on Dish Network. As far as I know I'll be able to watch the game on Thursday.
I do know congress is looking into this. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2662146 I pay $55 a month for what appears to be the same type of lineup as Bakes. FWIW; There are some here w/ satellite who don't get the mtn (a network exclusively for Mtn West Conf sports). They are steamed. Bottom line; its all about the Benjis and customer service/public relations is just something so corporations can allegedly say they care.

I haven't been able to google much info up, but I did see a blog that said that INSIGHT in Northern Kentucky decided against paying the NFL Network the excessive fees for the live games. I have the NFL Network, but my guide says that they will be showing "America's Game" here in Louisville. Here's a link to the blog, but you have to scroll down a little to find the entry regarding what is happening here. http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/tv/
I just called the NFL offices and left a respectful but passionate rebuke on the answering machine of their public relations person. I left my cell phone number. Let's see if anyone has the guts to call me back. I'm not holding my breath.
So was this rate hike just recent? Because I can't imagine this comes as a surprise to the cable companies? They've been promoting these games since the end of last season.

I don't know how much warning there was, but it doesn't seem like the NFL isn't above trying to bully cable companies into carrying the NFL Network at the prices that they are demanding. What I hate is that the NFL is trying to use NFL fans as pawns. They expect us to call our cable companies in rage at not getting the game. I read somewhere that the NFL is going to throw a lot of money into an advertising campaign to promote satelite to scare the cable companies. If you look at the NFL Network page at NFL.com, you will see that already. They mention that we have "a voice" and we can choose satelite. Dirty underhanded punks.

My experiance tells me that the Cable Co.'s are likely colluding against the NFL. Should the NFL charge the same as the Sundance Channel or the hords of other useless channels the cable companies shove down our throats when they force us to purchace a $50-$60 dollar package? Hell, I don't even want half of the crap in the package! I'd trade 30 channels for the NFL Channel. I used to pay an extra $5 per month for the NFL Channel (They gave me several others I didn't ask for) and the all the sudden they were all coming in EXCEPT the NFL Channel! Charter was still charging me! I called and ripped on them and got a two month refund. I don't like or trust the cable companies. For the $60 per month I pay I should get the NFL Channel and about 20 others I watch and they can keep their other garbage they force on me in their "package". That's my rant about Charter Communications. BASTARDS! I hope the NFL wins this battle.
I just checked the program guide and Im scheduled to get the game....I said bye bye to cable 3 years ago and I couldnt be happier....DirecTv is competitive in pricing with cable(maybe cheaper) and the rumors that it goes out every time it rains isnt exactly true....It does experience interference during heavy weather, but no more than digital cable....in fact, during the last few hurricanes, my DirecTv never went out, while the local cable company was off for several days....and the best part is that you can order Sunday Ticket....you can get it for as cheap as about $200 a year....it seems like a lot, but they will break it up into payments if you prefer....If you have people that will go in with you, it helps defer the costs....this year, my father, BF1, and I all split the cost, which came to $83 each....on Sundays, Im in the living room with my family watching the Dolphins and BF1 is in the bedroom watching the Bears....some of us live across the country from our teams and never get to see them play(I know Adder is in that position)....if thats the case, it breaks down to $5 a game....I like it becuase I get to see whatever games I want, not just the Dolphins....anyway, the solution is to screw the cable company and get DirecTv....atleast you know they work with the NFL to get the games on....
Well, I live in an apartment and don't have the option of satelite. While I'm not happy with cable costs, I don't think the NFL Network is helping the matter.
QUOTE

Time Warner wants the flexibility to put the NFL Network in a sports tier, while the NFL wants it in the expanded basic tier. I can follow online and don't know that its cost efficient to invest in the NFL package on directv. The way I look at; If I watch 2 or 3 games (any team any sport) a month & a few movies then I have spent the equivalent of my monthly cable cost.
I'm guessing ESPN didn't show the game in the US? I didn't get it on the NFL newtwork but our TSN(Canadian version of ESPN) showed the game
