Mike Sweeney, Emil Brown and Mark Grudzielanek all had two RBIas the Kansas City Royals coasted to a 7-4 victory over theTigers on Saturday. The setback pushed Detroit (84-71) 5 1/2 games behind the NewYork Yankees (89-65) in the American League wild card chase withjust seven games remaining. New York defeated Toronto earlier. For the second consecutive night, the Tigers' starters createdan early deficit. In the first inning, starter Kenny Rogers (3-3) yielded atwo-run single to Brown during a three-run frame. Royals race to early lead to defeat Tigers <h3>KANSAS CITY 7, DETROIT 4</h3>DETROIT (Ticker) -- The door may have just shut on the DetroitTigers' postseason hopes. Mike Sweeney, Emil Brown and Mark Grudzielanek all had two RBIas the Kansas City Royals coasted to a 7-4 victory over theTigers on Saturday. The setback pushed Detroit (84-71) 5 1/2 games behind the NewYork Yankees (89-65) in the American League wild card chase withjust seven games remaining. New York defeated Toronto. "Everybody else is going to be more dramatic about it than Iam," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "We're trying to win asmany games as we can, trying to give the fans as good a show aswe can. We don't like the situation we're in but that's thesituation we played ourselves into. "We're going to continue to play hard, we've got seven gamesleft. We're going to give it everything we've got. That's whatwe're supposed to do. It's a little sad that we're probablynot going to go to the postseason." Detroit starter Kenny Rogers (3-3) yielded a two-run single toBrown during a three-run first frame.
