Sports writers have never been good at predicting how succesful a team will be. The Nets on paper have always been an extremely attractive team, however they've clearly under achieved since Vince Carter's arrival. You can't tell how this team will perform.

However there was that one sports writer who said Gilbert Arenas was a better point guard than Jason Kidd.

BEcause, as we all know, sports writers are always right about players, though.

Respect or no respect, Nets really need to get it going this season. Too often they end up failing to meet expectations, despite look like a solid team. Last season, other than Hollinger, most writes predicated them to have a good season, but injuries among other things dug a hole for them. Injuries can't be controlled, but how much effort you put into a game can be.

So John Hollinger is a wizard, he cursed the Nets, so the Nets had a season full of injuries.

Sam Smith is an idiot, and like peg said, RealGM is unreliable.

On the other hand, I love David Thorpe. He's a trainer and a scout, and he's not a jerk like Rosen, so I actually care what he thinks.

I've never been a big Sam Smith fan. Besides that, its easy to make predictions like that, especially before the season, and especially in the East, as perhaps half the teams seem to have shots at winning the conference. Think about the Cavs run last year, and tell me which of the following teams have no shot at something similar this year if healthy: Celtics, Heat, Cavs, Nets, Pistons, Bulls, Wizards, Magic, Raptors. That's over half the conference. That means that there are more teams that can win the conference than teams that can't.
