QUOTE

In an interview with the Nets’ own website, GM Ed Stefanski repeatedly called Jamaal Magloire’s addition and the return of Nenad Krstic critical to the team’s success. Of Magloire, Stefanski said, “he is a piece that is really going to help us from a physical standpoint that we haven’t had here in years”. Krstic is “progressing nicely”, he added. Most of the questions Stefanski raised dealt with bench issues, noting”there’s a chance for (Bernard) Robinson to step up also.”

Deathblow is like 6th on the depth chart for the 2/3 so I really hope we don't need him to have an impact.

Maybe this is what they plan for Robinson...

Bickerstaff said. “I think he is able to come off the bench and contribute in a lot of ways. Offensively, he knows how to play basketball. He doesn't hurt you at all. He's athletic and really understands the game. He defends. Defensively, we had him at the four the other night, so he can bang. He really kept his head up and maintained his professionalism while he was waiting. Now the opportunity is available to him.”

In the past four games, he’s had to guard the likes of Michael Sweetney and Luol Deng (Chicago); Elton Brand and Chris Kaman (L.A. Clippers); and Joe Smith (Atlanta).

“When you’re out there long enough, you come to realize that you have to play physical,” Robinson said. “There’s no finesse about being down there on that block. It’s no joke. I give much respect to those big guys down there. I just have to go out there and play physical with those guys and let them know I’m not someone they can just push around.”

Back up at SF and PF. Interesting.

Well, he does look strong. I don't see, however, how he could contribute in other ways. Perhaps it's becauseI just didn't see much of this guy. He doesn't really get much playing time.I wonder if he can shoot. Do you guys have an idea where he played before getting drafted by Charlotte?

Hm I didn't know that, although I can't say it surprises me that much. That's why we call him Deathblow

He apparently has the reputation of being able to defend ANYONE--positions one through five. I think I've said this before, buthe may have contributed to Hassan Adams' demise. He could be better defensively, more flexible, and certainly no worse offensively. If all that is true, then (as I've said before) he could be a part of a defensive unit alongside Antoine Wright, and maybe Boone or Sean Williams or both. Wright and Bernard could play the 2-3, 2-4,or the 3-4 in such a configuration depending on who else is on the court.

I am told he DID contribute to Hassan Adams' demise. I think the other thing that contributed to Hassan Adams' demise was Robert Hite's performance in the summer league. Same age as Hassan with some of the same talent (strength, speed, athleticism) but a better jump shot. And Hassan has not been heard from since.

It wasn't surprising that Bernard didn't play much after he was acquired, given Coach Frank's pattern of use (see: Nachbar, Boston). The ONLY negative thing we heard about him was that report from D'Alessandro that he fell asleep before a game and, as a result, would probably be cut. No other reporter picked up on that story, and it doesn't look like it'll happen. Dave D., who is usually pretty reliable, had a poor offseason in terms of predicted personel changes. Bernard allegedly has an ugly jump shot, but that won't necessarily keep him from experiencing success, especially because of the Kidd Factor. If what they say about him is true, having two potential defensive stoppers off the bench would be a huge positive; you could pair them with a defensive liability like Marcus or Nachbar to try to hide their deficiencies.

Any time I read Ed's praise of a player, I remember his wonderful words about our old friend, Rodney Buford

Didn't Buford have a stretch of good games, before getting injured? I remember he had that odd looking jumpshot, too.

That year, we needed all the praise we could get, so can you blame him?

I get it. He's a stong, versatile version of Wright who could bash Lebron and Wade when he gets frustrated."Stepping up" is a nice wayof putting it. Anyhow, oo nga, Buford did get us some nice wins. He saved us from the folly of picking up Mercer. Buford, Krstic, and this other guy--ashooter who didn't make it in training camp--really helped us get into the playoffs that year.
