That rant was in response to this article by a female writer from the Daily Oklahoman.

Of course, fellow media members are coming to her defense. Dennis Dodd at CBS Sportsline and then there is this email that was sent out by the Football Writers Association of America

QUOTE

Last Saturday, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy used his post-game news conference as a platform to criticize an FWAA member for a story written about a player in his program.

The following is a statement from FWAA president Mike Griffith of the Knoxville News Sentinel after a review of the press conference comments and the story written in The Oklahoman by Jenni Carlson:

"I consider Coach Gundy's behavior completely inappropriate. It shows a lack of respect for the media and doesn't speak well for the university and the fans that he represents. Coach Gundy's actions have brought national attention and further scrutiny to the situation that could have been handled in a more private and appropriate matter."

The writer, Jenni Carlson wrote this for today's paper

Ricky Bobby: I hope you have sons. Beautiful, handsome boys. Articulate, educated, and athletic. And I hope they have their legs taken from them, so you can know what this pain is like.

Lucius: Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby

IMO the article was completely out of line. It blatantly made fun of a young man for having his mother give him some chicken in public. In times like these when every day we see an athlete college or pro getting tangled up in arrests, gambling, and steroids we're are now supposed to bring a guy down because he and his mother have a good relationship? It was such a stretch to take a low blow at a student athlete.

Having said that I think Gundy should have spoken out but without all the yelling and saying that about her future children. Pretty classless on both parties. I do completely agree that he should have stood up for his player, but he screwed himself when he started yelling and pointing.
