Rockies win franchise-best 10th straight with help from Fogg

COLORADO 2, LA DODGERS 0
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- A strong Fogg kept it clear sailing forthe Colorado Rockies.

Josh Fogg tossed 6 2/3 strong innings as the Rockies set afranchise record by winning their 10th straight game, downingthe Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-0, on Wednesday.

The win keeps the Rockies (86-72) on the heels of the San DiegoPadres (86-71) in the National League wild card chase, one-halfgame back and tied with the Philadelphia Phillies (86-72), whodefeated the Atlanta Braves earlier in the evening.

It also puts them just two games back of the NL West-leadingArizona Diamondbacks (88-70), who lost to the Pittsburgh Piratesearlier in the day.

Since May 22, Colorado has gone (67-45), which is the bestrecord in the NL in that span and second best in majors behindonly the New York Yankees (71-44). The 10-game winning streakis the longest in the majors this season.

Fogg (10-9), who was just 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA against theDodgers in three starts against them this season entering thiscontest, extended his unbeaten streak to six games, yieldingfive hits and walking three before departing in favor ofreliever Jeremy Affeldt after throwing 97 pitches.

The righthander benefited from Colorado's two-run third off LosAngeles starter Derek Lowe (12-14) that was sparked by a one-outdouble from Yorvit Torrealba and broke a scoreless tie. AfterFogg struck out on a bunt attempt, Kaz Matsui plated the firstRockie run with an RBI single.

Following Troy Tulowitzki's single that advanced Matsui tosecond, Matt Holliday scored Matsui with his own RBI single toincrease the lead to 2-0.

Closer Manny Corpas, who followed Affeldt and fellow relieverBrian Fuentes, worked around two infield singles in the ninthfor his 18th save in 21 chances.

Fogg's mastery of the Dodgers lineup made a hard-luck loser outof Lowe, who lost his second straight start despite yieldingonly two runs and five hits with seven strikeouts over sevenframes. In the sinkerballer's 14 losses this season, LosAngeles has managed just 30 runs.

Rookie Delwyn Young had two hits for the Dodgers, who havedropped nine of their last 10 contests.
