Not really just think Going undefeated in todays NFL is harder to do.. and would be a greater accomplisment then it was in 1972

It is harder today, in fact, its so hard, no one has done it....I dont see what that has to do with the one and only team that DID go undefeated....it goes to show though, that no matter what you accomplish in this life, someone will always be there to tell you its not good enough....there truely are 2 types of people in this world: do'ers and critics....

I think its a case of sour grapes. This years vintage as well as 1985.

Going undefeated is a remarkable accomplishment regardless of when you do it. It means more IMO to do it then as there were not only less teams & fewer games. There are more opportunities now, but, no one has done it in the last 34 yrs.

Some of the most noteworthy records (Marino's records or the perfect season) in the NFL are given lip service IMO because of the franchise that holds them. Its interesting when you consider that another legendary franchise that gets little love has broken them or come the closest.

I might be overlooking a team or I could be right.

Has anyone every starter 14-0 in a season? If not then I think that only makes the 72 Dolphins greater.

no what miami did was incredible.. but its harder to do in todays nfl... like people don't like when we say the bears are the second leading team in titles.. because its out of the superbowl era.. The scheduele is now 16 games not 14 19 total not 17 for the time.. miami was amazing.. but it would be a bigger accomplishment in todays nfl to do 19 wins

One thing that hasn't been taken into account is that there were more teams that were excellent in the 70's then there are in today's watered down game. That's why I would favor the NFL retracting rather than expanding. It's more important to place teams in the right markets as opposed to trying to place teams in every market. Take this year, the Bears and the Colts are clearly the front runners in the race for the Super Bowl, but each team has some glaring weaknesses. I'm not sure you can say that about the Dolphins, Steelers, Raiders or Cowboys of the 70's when they made their title runs or even the 85 Bears.

Me and beef "discussed" this earlier. What they did in '72 was good. Not greatness. There are at least 50 other teams that would have gone undefeated vs that puffy schedule. The fact they didnt play anyone with more than 9 wins in regular season says it all. Puffed to the maximum. Not an accomplish for all time, just a good season with ideal circumstances.

And this years Bears have had such a quality schedule to this point.

I agree w/ Dale on things being watered down these days. It would not bother me in the least to see the NFL go back to 28 teams.

You cant compare teams of one era to another because the science behind training keeps improving....todays players are year round strong....they have all the money they need to train all year and never worry about things like getting a job in the offseason to keep thier families fed....they have access to all the equipment one could imagine to work out on....players today are bigger, stronger and faster than yesterday and thats a trend that will continue....so to say there are 50 teams that could have gone undefeated in 1972, well fucking duh....there are 32 teams in the NFL today that would have gone undefeated in 1972, even the Lions....but in 1972, there was only one team, and not a team that could go undefeated, but a team that did....let that resonate, a team that DID....specualate all you want about schedules and differences in eras, but we have one team that did it and a bunch of teams that say they could....but every team that says they could have didnt, they didnt....so pop those corks gents, you accomplished something legendary that no one has come close to doing, and you should celebrate that whenever you feel like it....

PS....no team has started 14-0 since the Dolphins in '72....the Broncos won 13 to start the 1998, but lost the next 2....
