QUOTE

Star Tribune - Glen Taylor, owner of the Wolves, said that the Kevin Garnett trade might have never developed had Garnett not come to Kevin McHale last spring and asked for a three-year contract extension. But Garnett, who was being paid $22 million a season, refused the suggestion of Taylor that KG take a cut in salary, so the decision was made to make the trade. Taylor said that the Chicago Bulls were interested in Garnett but not at the salary he demanded.

QUOTE (o.iatlhawksfan)

who would they have traded???

that's what i was wondering. PJ, Noc, duhon, and other crap? Gordon? hmm?

If its the Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas, filler trade that Doug said one of the players agents told him about, I am okay with declining that one. Ben is an integral part to our teams success post big man trade.
But if we could have gotten a trade done with Luol Deng and Joakim Noah (which we should have been able to do), then I would have pulled the trigger on that one.
That still leaves us with
PG-Kirk Hinrich/Chris Duhon SG-Ben Gordon/Thabo Sefolosha SF-Andres Nocioni/Thabo Sefolosha PF-Kevin Garnett/Tyrus Thomas C- Ben Wallace/Joe Smith
It'd be nice to try to just make the basis of the trade Deng for KG if possible (it might have been, hard to predict the values), so we'd have Noah and Tyrus still on board. I love both of them, and think both will be very good NBA players. But Deng was the obvious trade bait here, since it allowed Nocioni more playing time, and Sefolosha to get more PT at his natural position.
I am not shocked that Paxson would pass up Gordon/Tyrus, I think those are his two favorite pieces on the Bulls, and a trade of one is highly unlikely. When you compound getting rid of his two favorite pieces with giving KG a team crippler contract (even though Bulls were over the cap, but we probably would have had to make moves to get back to contender status after giving away Gordon for KG), its no shock that Paxson passed on that trade. I would have too. But Deng for KG, or Tyrus+Noah for KG as the basis, if any of those got discussed, and passed on, I'd be angry.

There is no way that Boston would have taken just anything from us. The article says that the Bulls were interested in KG not that their was a deal in place. To get KG we would have gutted the team and had to create an entirely new one like Boston did. Boston gave Minnesota Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair(5 players) and two first-round picks for KG. So they made a good move in retaining Paul Peirce and an even better move in picking up Ray Allen.
So if the Bulls would have traded for KG I think it would be for more than just 2-3 players especially when you're throwing rookies in the mix. It would have taken alot and I've loved watching this team grow over the last couple years I'd hate to see them broken up for one player who's 31 and would have left us with empy pockets and spots to fill. So I'm glad we didn't trade for KG unless it was something completly in our favor...which is a 'duh' statement. Now come talk to me when there's moreKobe to Chicago talk.
