I agree the timing is bogus. It happened this past summer and the league is just getting around to it now.

The timing is almost as laughable as Sammy Morris' suspension

I've know why it happened this week. Robert Kraft has "friends" in high League offices. I'm not talking about the Commissioner. I'm talking about the people who pull the Commissioner's strings. Think about it. Remember "the Tuck?" Why is it that whenever the mysterious "football move" is evoked, it benefits the Patriots? Who do you think was behind Ricky Williams "failed drug test" that broke up a trade between the Patriots' two hated rivals, the Dolphins and the Broncos, and sent Ricky to Canada where he couldn't benefit anyone? (It wouldn't surprise me if Ricky was "injured" on purpose to quell speculation.) Why was the league source that leaked this information never sniffed out? Think about it. What did it take to get the Patriots in the League's good graces? Was a deal struck on the day that the Patriots "lost" to the Packers led by ....BRETT FAVRE??? Think about it.

If merriman can appeal his suspension, then manning should be able to appeal his. Then just take it the next week to work around schedule, just like that cheater merriman.

I didn't pick the Phins to win the Super Bowl, but I had them losing to Indy in the AFC Championship game and winning the AFC East....

Stupid me....I fell for the hype

What hype? Hype is the propaganda that keeps people thinking year after year after year that Michael Vick will eventually learn how to throw a football accurately. Hype is media attention what had people saying that the signing of Turd Orifice would automatically put the Cowboys in the Super Bowl even though he hasn't been particularly healthy or productive in a couple of years. On the other hand, why wouldn't you think that a team that finished with six straight wins and one game behind the Patriots wouldn't be able to compete the next year? The speculation turned out wrong or perhaps just premature, but it wasn't without some sort of foundation. It burns me up that people talk about guys like Vick and Orifice ad nauseum and can't see the hype, but the Dolphins are given a little optomistic thought based on some actual on the field production and when they stumble they get thrown under the hype bus and tagged the "trendy pick."

No offense...I understand it drives you crazy. But they did become the trendy sleeper pick for so many. There was a "hype" around them, just like Vick and TO, as a team to watch out for because Culpepper was going to return back to form. If it's only "optimistic thought" for them then why isn't it only "optimistic thought" for Vick and TO? Right now, the Cowboys are receiving far too much hype as Super Bowl contenders by the national media. The Dolphins received too much hype as a sleeper at the beginning of the season. Everyone picked them to be a sleeper! That makes it hype...

Please give me some links to all of these sleeper picks. No one has been able to do it so far. A lot of people said that the Dolphins MIGHT win the AFC East IF Culpepper returned to form or IF this or IF that, but most of those saying that the Dolphins MIGHT make some noise almost always had some sort of disclaimer accompanying the pick. That means that people THOUGHT that the Dolphins might be good this year but recognized that there were certain things that needed to help make that happen. If there are so many people picked the Dolphins outright, where are they now? All I hear are is all the people knocking the Dolphins for being the trendy pick or the product of hype. The reason that it's not hype is because it was pick based on some on field production that the Dolphins accomplished at the end of last season. What else are you going to base picks for the future on? The reason that Vick and Orifice fit into the hype catagory is because the media keeps shoving them down our throats year after year after year even though there isn't much basis for their assertions. Vick has a couple of good games here and there and then reverts to his old form. Orifice has a few good games here and there, but is either injured or suspended and isn't on the field. What bugs me is that a lot of fans don't hold their own teams or favorite players to the same standards that they hold the Dolphins. Brett Favre can stick his nose in another players contract and people will defend him to the death and probably bash Marino for not winning a Super Bowl in the process. Year after miserable year, Michael Vick proves he will never be a consistant passer but people still defend him. Jason Taylor kills QBs year after year, but Jevon Kearse has to be injured for him to get any attention even though Taylor is clearly heads and tails the best defense end in the NFL and has been for years. I don't want people to give the Dolphins credit where it isn't due, but it's starting to get on my nerves when people talk about how it was a joke that the Dolphins could have been considered to be a good team going into this year. The Dolphins haven't lived up to expectations and the DWO has been quick to own that, but I'm tired of hearing revisionist history that suggests that EVERYONE was picking the Dolphins to be some sort of super team when that's a pile of crap.

Boy! Did I start a ****storm. I'm going to put this to bed. Are you ready?

Dale hit the nail on the head when you qualify something with any number of conditions i.e. if... then it isn't hype.

Good call on the revisionism, Dale. Maybe Saddam's WMD's are in S Florida? LOL.

When the Media forces the same improbable crap down your throat year after year after like Vick, TO, & (it pains me to say this) Indy's chances to win it all then thats hype.

The irony of this is the phins have been underachievers for many years so they finally overachieve in 05 and they get "penalized" for it? I hate to beat dead horse but the Dolphins get no love or respect from the media but thats fine I'd rather have it that way.

I dread the day when Miami wins a Super Bowl or two and people like Berman & the rest of his merry band of idiots in Bristol decide to jump on the bandwagon and start kissing the posterior of Nick & everyone else in the organization like they do w/ the Pats, Broncos, & Niners back in the day.

And if your not down with that...

I personally was never High on miami at the seasons start.. they went and got culpepper and people think culpepper is a Good QB but most of his success i strongly belive was that he had randy moss, when moss was all about going up and getting it.. Now he looks like a deer in the headlights when he is on the feild.. If culpepper was so great why just get rid of him for a second round pick???? even if he was a so called distraction?? The supposed old Culpepper would have been worth 2 first round selections.. the new culpepper the one i belive is the real culpepper is worth a 5th round pick at best.. Jason Taylor is the marvin harrison of his position fantastic year in year out.. and prob the best at his position but flys under the radar year in year out due to others that the media deems worthy of the light.. Kearse, freeney just to name a few.. Zach Thomas is in the top 3 of LB position.. But isn't talked about much due to others stealing the light. I would rank Thomas #2 overall in the NFL at his position.. But is rarely talked about.. The Dolphins have what it takes to be Great and probably will be in the comming years.. I Belive Harrington is miamis future Culpepper never will be Great agian.. Ronnie Brown is comming into his own.. And the defense is getting better.. But Miami will always be under the radar Because of the Colts, Or denver and of course the medias 3 favs, Falcons, cowboys, and NE.. The bears 9-1 and still over shadowed by the colts and NE and all those.. when the Bears are at the top of thier game.. oh well I guess we should get some loud mouth reciver.. maybe then the bears could get some love

BF1, it's all related. I'm sure Kraft is behind Ricky Manning's suspension and paid SI to pick the Dolphins to win the Super Bowl to start the myth. Even if, Ricky Manning is successful in putting off the suspension for a game, the Bears should watch out for ex-cons on snow plows on their way into the stadium.
