I would love to hear from you guys what you feel your team needs are... As I've stated before, the NFL Draft is something I study up on on a year round basis. Team needs is a big part of understanding where a team will draft. I feel like I have a good idea on the team needs for each team for the most part, but I'm always interested in what fans of teams think about their own team needs. Plus, I am always open to outside knowledge. Maybe there's something you see that I don't.... It brings up a good debate anyway and I hope you'll list needs for other teams as well. List a top 5 of your team's needs. I've done a top 5 for every team that I will share when a team is brought up since I'm too lazy to copy my team needs spreadsheet into this topic. I'll start it off with what I feel are the Cowboys top 5 needs for the coming offseason. 1. NT - Jason Ferguson is an overachiever and plays very well, but he's 31 and has had injury problems in the past. Jay Ratliff is more of a pass rusher from the position and Montavius Stanley hasn't worked out because of being lazy and out of shape. The Boys need a true run stuffer at the position. I think the Cowboys could look at this position in the 1st round if Alan Branch is available when they pick. Tank Tyler could also be a possibility later in the 1st round. If they have to put it off until later in the draft then I think Louis Leonard out of Fresno St. could be the run stuffer they need at the position. 2. WR - I know this will draw a loud "huh?!" from a lot of people, but hear me out first. TO and T-Glenn are both 32. Patrick Crayton has been a good 3rd WR, but he's an UFA and could get some attention on the market because of his potential. I like Sam Hurd, but not as an every down receiver. It's time to prepare for the future at this position. Personally, if Ted Ginn enters and is available when the Cowboys pick in the 1st round, I wouldn't mind them pulling the trigger and taking him. He gives you a replacement for Glenn as a 2nd deep threat on the team and he can be the PR the Cowboys hoped they were getting in Skylar Green last year, but haven't gotten what they expected. Drafting a WR in the 1st round is completely uncharacteristic of Parcells though and they'll probably look elsewhere before they did such a thing. 3. OT - I want Flozell Adams cut. He makes stupid plays constantly. I'm tired of seeing DEs rush by him untouched and I'm tired of the mental mistakes game after game. I'm fine with Marc Colombo who has overachieved this year and is full of heart and effort. Flozell is costing a lot of money and isn't worth the price. He'd be a very smart cut to make. 4. FS - I'm fairly tentative on saying this because I'd like to see Pat Watkins get another shot at the position next season as he shows improvement. The position is the achilles heel of the defense though and something has to be done. I'd be okay with bringing in some competition for Watkins and Keith Davis. Keith Davis has more value as a great special teams player more than anything. Someone like maybe John Wendling or JD Nelson in the 3rd or 4th round could be a welcome addition. 5. CB - I know Anthony Henry and Terrance Newman are both very good, but the Cowboys use 3 CBs on the field almost as much as they use their base 3-4 defense. Aaron Glenn is still performing at a very good level, but he's 34. Retirement has to be on the horizon for him. A CB as early as the 2nd round that has the potential to be a good nickel CB, and maybe even an eventual replacement for Henry, would be nice. Marcus Hamilton of Virginia or C.J. Wilson of Baylor are two of my more favorite ideas for this position.
1) OLT 2) another young Playmaking OLB 3) A Legit #1 CB 4) A young Speedy WR 5) NT/DT Nick could have drafted Marcus McNeil or Manny Lawson but went w/ J Allen. Don't get me wrong, the phins needed a FS who could cover the slot WR but I thought the positions above were more of a priority Daniels and W Allen are decent #2 CB's but the whole secondary would be better with a top flight CB. Nate Clements in FA? Hagan will be real good in the near future but he is more of a possession WR. There is age (Zgonina & Traylor) and inconsistent/unproven youth (Vickerson & Manny W) that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

I honestly know next to nothing about him, but he did have a good game against Minnesota last week. Also, DT becomes an even bigger position to fill because Vonnie Holiday is a UFA at season's end. Another question: I thought Miami was switching to a 3-4, but I recall them in the 4-3 more when I've seen them. Have they made any effort to move to the 3-4 with Dom Capers as D-Coordinator?
Niners have got a lot of needs..... TOP Priority: 1. DEFENSIVE BACK: We have been burned all year through the air on defense. We have done well against the bad QB's like Andrew Walter and Seneca Wallace but we have been burned by other qb's like Rex Grossman and Donovan McNabb. Our best way to go would be getting Daymeon Hughes but he is likely going to be picked before us. Cason from Arizona would be a nice route to go if we need to take someone a bit later like in the third or fourth round. 2. WIDE RECIEVER: Though the Niners have a solid group of recivers they could use someone who could come in and get open. Antonio Bryant has worked well as the number 1 guy and Battle as the number 2 but a 3rd reciever would be a nice option for the team to go after. They need a guy who rusn precise routes and gets open. Rhema McKnight does a good job with precise route running and would be a solid choice for the Niners in the 2nd round if he is still up on the board. Overall, the Niners have no absolute glaring needs besides maybe DB and the wide recievers could use some depth..

Anthony Adams is vastly undersized for the position. Alan Branch could be a great pick for the Niners. Also, I think at this point that Hughes could very well be available when the Niners pick, but I don't think he rates ahead of Branch if he's availble. Cason would be too high at the Niners pick at this point.

They run a hybrid....the base defense is a 3-4 and you can tell Saban wants to run that as his base because he's drafted a bunch of 290 lb DTs to convert to DE(Vickerson, both Wrights, Evans)....the problem is that thier best player is Jason Taylor, who is best lined up with his hand on the ground in a 4-3....so they run that hybrid and move Taylor all over to create favorable matchups for him....they need: 1. A franchise LT....I firmly believe that the best way to turn an average OL into an elite OL is to add a franchise LT....all the best OLs have them(or a RT if the QB is a lefty)....its a good position to draft in the 1st round as well, as Tackles taken early have the best track record of living up to the hype....Joe Thomas is the guy, but he may go #1 overall if the Cards pick 1st, or 2nd if the Lions pick 1st.... 2. A huge NT....If they could find a young talented 350lb NT to anchor that 3-4 for the next 10 years, that would help....the D-Line is the most talented unit on the team(it may be the most talented DL in the league), but they are an old group.... 3. OLB....Channing Crowder is destined to move inside at some point, and none of the current OLBs are anything to write home about....a big, fast pass rusher(like Shawn Merriman) would go along way toward taking some pressure of Jason Taylor....Lance Briggs is rumored to be destined for Miami, but he doesnt fit the mold of a 3-4 OLB.... 4. FS....Saban said Jason Allen will be moved to CB during the offseason....I love Y. Bell at SS....hes under talented, but over achieving and theres always room for guys like that....(but if they made a run at Michael Lewis, I would be happy)....they dont have a FS on the roster that is big time....R. Hill does a lot with what he has, but hes a Dime Back/Special Teamer more than a starting FS.... 5. RB....they desperately need a 2nd RB....they havent committed to the run this year as much as they should have and I believe its because they didnt have a guy behind Ronnie Brown that they trusted....Im sure they would like to steal a guy in the 3rd to 4th round that can spell Brown.... 6. QB....they need to address the future at the position....Harrington has been great and Culpepper still has potential when healthy, but a young passer that could learn the system and push those guys would be great....I havent seen enough of Cleo Lemon to know if he can be that guy....
I think J Allen moving full time to CB is one of Nick's red herrings. I truly believe he is the FS of the future. Beef raised a good point about the #2 RB and the Dolphins lack of commitment to the running game. Through the Minnesota game, The phins have only run 38% of the time i.e 3 of every 8 plays. If Ronnie goes down there is a problem. The running game will also improve when they have a franchise LT and consistent play from both Guards. Having continuity of personnel on the line is important as well.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BoltPride)</div><div class='quotemain'>Chargers need: 1)SS 2)ILB 3)OL (either OG or OT) 4)WR 5)DL (primarily back up NG)</div> I question the OL needs. The Chargers have one of the best running games in the league and have given up only 18 sacks. They draft Marcus McNeill to play LT in the 2nd round last season and he's been great this season. I think they have one of the best OLs in the NFL this season. I think WR has to be at least their 3rd priority and then move CB into the mix here. Face it, without consistent pressure on the QB, the corners are still very vulnerable even with their improved play.
Packers need 1). CB 2). RB 3). S 4). DE 5). TE With the first four all being interchangeable lol. Corner back is a definate need due to the aging corners we have, ala Philly style, draft future replacements now, two guys a really like for the first round at Corner are Marcus Mcalughy from Fresno Stae and Leon Hall from Michigan, one guy I would also have my eye on after round one is Darrelle Revis from Pitt. RB also due to an aging Amahn Green, Noah Herron and Vernand Morency are both solid role players but neither could be trusted to carry the load. Marshawn Lynch is probably my FAVORITE player in the draft this year, at least in terms of wanting the Packers draft him. Tony Hunt from Penn State would be an intriguing prospect if we chose to settle for a back in the 2nd or 3rd round. S We need a bonified solid cover guy at Safety, Collins has made many errors this year but has the athleticism and skill to be great, he is way to early to give up on. Marquand Manuel on the other hand has had one good game against his former team. Manuel can hit like a train but covers like a caboose! He is jsut a linebacker in the secondary, out of place. Someone like Laron Landry would definatly upgrade this spot. DE KGB is still a very dangerous pass rusher and has improved against the run, but he is far from stout in that department. Aaron Kampan was worth every penny we paid him. KGB should stay but we should renegotiate his contract to a more cap friendly deal and we should draft someone to alternate along the line to keep both Kampman and KGB spelled. My favorite DE in the draft is Ray Macdonald from Florida, very solid all around DE. Lemar Woodley from Michigan is also a solid DE i would not mind having, if we go for them after round 1. TE The only TE's I like in this draft are Matt Spaeth from Minnesota just because he catches solid, runs solid routes, and blocks solidly, he just solid all around! lol. I also like Clark Harris from Rutgers. Either of these guys can be had on Day two, it would just give us sime nice depth at the TE position. Wideout could also be on the list, and if a good one falls to us somewhere I woulden't be suprised if we use a First round let alone first day pick on one.

I know he's a fan favorite but the guy is inconsistent and hasn't gotten any better against the run. He just has good LB's backing him up but he's still the same liability. Run at Corey Williams and KGB and you'll get your yards. Kampman and Pickett stay away from. That's the blueprint on the Pack. Then go up top. I don't see Corner as the #1 need. I think Safety is more of a need with DE and RB coming next. I think GB needs to get Harris signed and then Draft a Corner in the 2nd or 3rd round to develop for a year as Nickel back. Woodson has played pretty good this year and Harris has as well. It's the safeties and Dendy that's killing us and Kurt Schottenheimer. If I had to rate them? 1. DE - We need a consistent pass rush opposite of Kampman. A Pass rush instantly makes the secondary look better. 2 RB - Green is aging and isn?t the explosive back he used to be. 3. SS - I think Collins should get one more year but Manuel is a bust of a signing. I?d love to see LaRon Landry in Green and Gold next year. 4. CB - I think a young prospect to work behind Woodson and Harris would be wise. I don?t like the idea of taking a one in the top 10 unless maybe Leon Hall . 5. TE - This position has gone from one of our best to one of our worst. 6. WR - Still need a big play threat. Someone like Dwayne Jarrett would be nice and fit?s the mold of McCarthy?s style. Imagine if GB would go out and try and sign Michael Turner away from San Diego. Sign one of the 3 big DE free agents. Freeney, Grant, or Justin Smith. Then in the Draft get LaRon Landry and look at a CB, TE/WR in round 2 and 3. We have the cap to do so.
While I'm still trying to find something for the Ravens maybe later in the offseason, I have a few for the Chargers and definetely one for the Rams. Chargers really need a WR. Keenan McCardell is the oldest active WR in the league at the age of 35? I think. And though the second WR is Eric Parker, he is good but not the type who can take on the #1 role. Sure they have depth at the position with Malcom Floyd and Vincent Jackson, but it wouldn't hurt to draft some talent but if they rather throw in them into the role and see if they progess than that's what they can do. Another position for them is MLB. AJ Smith is the idiot trying to shop Donnie Edwards, who is the most consistant, durable, and one of the best coverage linebackers in the league. And if he's gone, don't be surprised if they get a linebacker. Here's an obvious one. St. Louis Rams drafting a DT. Why? After watching them getting destroyed by running backs like Frank Gore, and even Edgerrin James!

The rate the Pack is going I think Adrian Peterson or Calvin Johnson have become realistic picks. They've gone from picking 11 or 12 to picking 4 or 5.

1. MLB - They passed on a very deep class this year & with everyone over 30 it's very clear to see why this is the biggest need position in New England. It's so bad they brought Seau out of retirement. 2. CB - Today's NFL is primarily a pass 1st type of league now & with the injury proned Harrison coupled with the UFA Samuels the Pats need to look to the future in the secondary. They'll probably look to draft a tweener, one that can play CB & S. 3. OT - They're a relatively young group already, but injuries have been plaguing them every year. Depth is always a concern at this position & protecting Brady has to be priority #1 for the long term success of this franchise.

David Harris from Michigan would fit a 3-4 defense wonderfully and I think he's the type of player the Bellichick would love because of his hard working attitude.

I think WR has to be at least their 3rd priority and then move CB into the mix here. Face it, without consistent pressure on the QB, the corners are still very vulnerable even with their improved play.</div> Our OL has been very good this year-probably the best it has been in a long time. McNeill has really been great for us, I think he has only gave up 2.5 sacks the whole year or something..Pretty impressive for a rookie, especially when playing LT. And of course you have to remember that Lorenzo Neal is probably one of the best blocking fullbacks in the league. But this season a lot of success from our O-line is also coming from the tremendous blocking job of Brandon Manumaleuna who is a 6-2, 300 pound TE that we signed from the Rams. He has done excellent work at picking up extra blitzers/opening holes for LT, and basically serves as another lineman for us...But if we could sign another stud guard or tackle, our running game would be damn near impossible to stop. Right now the strength of our line is on the left side, and most of LT's success this season has came from runs to that side-sort of how Seattle was last year with Alexander and Hutchinson. The right side of the line is good as well, but with another qualitylineman we could make it great, possibly the best in the NFL. Just imagine how potent the Chargers rushing attack would be then, especially when you consider that Ladainian Tomlinson would the be runningback utilizing it. I seriously think he would be able to produce a 2,000+ yard season..Also, it is always essential to have quality depth for all the positions, and last year when we took some injuries to the O-line the backups came in and sucked. Having a true #1 WR would be nice, but it's not necessary right now. Having a guy like Antonio Gates on your team and a running back like LT who is a dangerous threat in the receiving game as well, provides Rivers with more than enough offensive weapons to throw the ball to when you consider that our wideouts our a solid group of possession receivers. Keenan McCardell may be old but, he is clutch on third downs and hasn't shown any signs of age catching up to him. Eric Parker who is our #2, is a Wes Welker type guy that will move the chains when needed. Then we have 2 young tall receivers in Malcom Floyd and Vincent Jackson who have shown a lot potential and are still developing into great players. Our cornerbacks have really stepped up this year. We drafted Antonio Cromartie as our 1st rounder last year, and although he is still raw, he has tremendous athletic ability. He has shown good signs so far, and next year i'm expecting him to be a playmaker for us. The main reason our secondary struggles is due to our safties..If we can acquire a ball hawk SS then our secondary would be very solid.
