I'm always amazed how many pro athletes manage to break their foot. Time to dial up Earl Boykins.

WHAT? How long will he be out from this, any idea? I think this means no Houston and we have to sign a PG now.

Breaking news, nice one Petey. Why couldn't this have happened 24 hours earlier before Brown went to Cleveland, now we may very well end up with Boykins, or make a push for Armstrong.
Just when Marcus worked himself into decent shape too, well back to the drawing board with that one.

Well that's not good. I think this is a 6-8 week thing, from what I've searched for. Of course, I'm no doctor.

F F F F F!! so many positive being said about marcus this summer and now hes going to have surgery and everything is going to set him back and puts us in a pickle now. lets see what rod and ed do

Looks like Robert Hite will get playing time. I'd rather have Boykins but he's too expensive. Shoot, I hope that any new PG signing doesn't keep Rod Benson off the team.

IF it's 6-8 weeks, that's just a month and a half. So, the first month is training camp/pre-season , with the other half being the first few weeks of the regular season, which isn't too bad. Then of course, the recovery. Something tells me it'll be 12-24 weeks though. this isn't good.

OK, did some more research. There are a few basic fractures that can occur to the 5th metatarsal (which is the bone that connects to your little toe). The worst of these fractures is called the Jones fracture. There are two options when this type of fracture occurs: either have surgery on the foot (in which a screw is placed in the foot) or place the foot in a cast and let it heal naturally. Generally, the foot will be in the cast for as little as 3 weeks, to as many as 16 weeks, depending on how displaced the bone is. The big concern with this fracture is that the bone must heal completely, or else the condition will re-occur over time. The fracture has a tendency to heal slowly because of it's location in the foot. Blood flow to that section of the metatarsal is poor, and the tendons in the foot cause an almost constant motion at the area of the fracture.
Another fracture is the avulsion fracture, which generally happens in young athletes, so I highly doubt this is what Marcus has.
The final fracture is, of course, the stress fracture. These take about 4-10 weeks to heal, depending on the severity of pain the patient heals. After this time period, the level of activity can increase. During the first week of recovery, no stress is placed on the foot at all, so the patient is usually restricted to his bed.
So, since Marcus is having surgery, I guess he suffered the Jones fracture.

QUOTE (cpawfan)

I think this is great news. It forces Rod to get a real backup PG for the roster.

Wishful thinking. He's not going to miss more than a month of the season = we're not getting anyone decent. My guess is we get some crappy stopgap as a 15th man, and that Vince ends up getting most of the backup PG minutes.

QUOTE (cpawfan)

I think this is great news. It forces Rod to get a real backup PG for the roster.

... because in all his years as the Nets GM / President he's has so much luck in doing that?
I miss Vaughn.
-Petey

Tough loss for the Nets, and it'll be hard for Williams to come back in middle of the season and get back into NBA form. I also have him on my GM Draft team, any timetable available as to how long the recovery will be?

Boils down to Darrell Armstrong and Dan Dickau (hopefully the Knicks release him soon) quick question is it too late for Dee Brown to return from Turkey?
