Well, something had to give. I heard that Walsh has been demoted....to the Raiders' travel agent. He will find the best deal in town for the team's hotel accomodations. This is ultimately what he wanted for his career path - to be involved with football, and still treat people to a continental breakfast.
This year's team is on pace for 192 points. No Raiders team has scored fewer than 213 points in a full season, and that came during a 14-game season in 1962. I bet that I could call plays that would yield more points than that, and that isn't saying much. I just hope that Shoop plays to the strengths that the Raiders have personell-wise and does things that make sense. For example, I don't want to see him call for Fargas to run short-yardage stuff and crockett to run sweeps, etc. I would like to see more double-tightend sets, a more firm commitment to the running game, and only 3-step drops by the QB's. The longer QB drops were the butt of many jokes, and nearly killed both of our QB's this year. Along with the news on Shoop, I heard today that Jake Grove is going to now handle all the long snapping duties in addition to his normal job as center. Grove gets injured more frequently than I am comfortable with, and having to rely on him for everything is a bit risky in my opinion.
Seasons like this, like the ones before, they build character. They let you know what it's like to be the Lions or Cardinals.
