Paraphrasing what I said a few weeks ago, I think the powers deliberatley created & have kept a flawed system. After all, controversy creates cash.

Regardless of whether the Wolverines or Gators got to play OSU, how many would watch just so they could say I told you so?

The only difference with this year is the SEC did not get screwed. They had gotten the short end in years prior, so, it all evens out in the end. :einstein: Doesn't it?

Not where they got unfairly jobbed. The bottom line is wisconsin was just lucky they didnt play OSU or they would have 2nd loss. If wisconsins conference wasnt screwed up so that 2 teams could go undefeated and never play, then this would be non-issue, you would have made title game or michigan would have and it could be settled on field. Blame your conference not the BCS. BCS has worked every year except 1. auburn is the only team to ever get screwed. The rules are fine, its just so much whining about this and that. Only if you went undefeated vs legit schedule do you have any complaint of any merit ever.</div>
Notre Dame has 2 loses which are more than Wisconsin. They played a very similar schedule as Wisconsin. Are they deserving of a BCS Bowl? Since Wisconsin obviously isn't by your logic since they lost one game then ND can't be with 2 loses. Same goes for LSU even though they lost as well twice. The NT should be Boise State vs. Ohio State since they are the only unbeaten teams in Division 1 College Football.

The absolute FACT is Wisconsin went 11-1. Do they deserve a BCS Bowl. Maybe, Maybe not. Notre Dame went 10-2. Do they Deserve a BCS Bowl? Maybe, Maybe not. What we do know is ND gets the opportunity to be allowed to play in one and Wisconsin doesn't. That's not fair to the university of Wisconsin and it's not fair to the players at the school. You can substitute Wisconsin with Auburn and ND with Oregon for all I care. The rule is doing more damage than good and an 11-1 Wisconsin team deserves the opportunity for the Sugar Bowl committee to select them if they desire to do so.</div>
ND could have joined big 10. Then they wouldnt be eligible either. Once again, school made a decision. Wisconsin signed up. Flaw isnt with BCS it is with wisconsin and big ten. I think that 3rd place teams in conferences should be eliminated from playing in BCS games. That way teams that travel well dont go over more deserving teams. Wisconsin SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING IN BCS BOWL.

How can you say that it worked? Why is Florida more deserving than Michigan to play for the NC? If Florida would have won against Auburn then I would understand but they have identical records and have similiar strength of schedules... We beat our lone common opponent by 9 more points than what Florida did... Michigan's lose was AT their arch rivals who happen to be the only one that people are sure should be playing for the NC by 3 points, Florida's was at a non rival, non BCS bowl team by 10 pts...

After Michigan lost they were still looked at as the #2 team in america by everyone, then slipped 2 consecutive weeks without stepping on to the field... Why did Florida all of a sudden jump Michigan? Why not the weeks before? The lone reason is because the pollsters thought that USC was going to beat UCLA and it wouldn't have mattered so they went with what they saw on the field... Then the unthinkable happened and USC lost... Then they found themselves in a bind and they simply took the easy way out... The easy way is seldom the right way... The purpose of the BCS is to put the 2 best teams in the Nation on the field to play for a NC and that isn't the case... I believe it, Vegas believes it (U of M would be favored by 6 points against the Gators), most others believe it... Now once the game is played we can come back to this thread and we can see how each team stacked up against their second common opponent...

Care for a bet? I'll take OSU giving up 3, exactly what U of M lost by... Any takers?</div>
Florida deserves to go more because they won thier conference. Thier schedule was much tougher. They beat 8 bowl eligible teams. Michigan beat 5 bowl eligible teams.

Florida beat 4 teams with 8 or more wins
Michigan beat 3 teams with 8 or more wins

Florida beat 2 teams with 10 or more wins
Michigan beat 1 team with 10 or more

Ill take the team that ACTUALLY won its conference over a 2nd place team any day. A team that played a harder schedule, plus a title game and had just as many losses, over a team that didnt win it conference, got spared one of the top 5 teams in its conference (due to scheduleing they didnt have to play purdue or illinois) Florida didnt play some teams in its conference too . . .4-8 missisppi and 3-9 missippi state.

comparing one like opponent is ridiculous, i assume you mean vanderbilt. 2 things
    1) You played them at home, they played them on the road
    2) vandy plays fl every year so they know them better and games tend to be closer in that situation.

Florida deserves to go to title game. Their loss to auburn was equal to your loss to OSU. You really had no shot at winning that game and only looked close cuz of garbage TD.

Bottom line. I am U of Miami fan who hates gators and think they will get crushed. However, they earned the trip, and michigan didnt.

ND won't join the Big Ten. They're has actually been talks about it several times and forming 2 leagues and a Big Ten Title Game. Most recently a year ago when the ACC announced it's new look conference. ND has no intention of moving because it's much easier to rank #8 in the BCS than it is to win the Big Ten Title.

Care to go into detail why a 3rd place conference team doesn't deserve a BCS Bowl especially one that goes 10-2 and 11-1? Also what makes ND or LSU more deserving? Wisconsin fans are very loyal and have always traveled well. Most recently the 3 Rose Bowl victories under Barry Alvarez. It's all about marketing nationally though and ND would get picked anyways but the fact is Wisconsin and Auburn should be given the opportunity to selected by the Sugar Bowl committee to play for the BCS. If they feel Wisconsin and Auburn deserve it over ND then they should be allowed to pick them. Maybe they do and maybe they don't but they don't have a choice because of the rule. It?s their bowl game and their money. Why not let them decide instead of the laws of the BCS.

Bro if Crable wouldn't have had hit Smith on their last drive Michigan would have taken the lead on that "garbage touchdown"... If Michigan doesn't wait until half time to make thier defensive adjustments it would have been a different game... To say that we weren't close is idiotic... Almost as idiotic as it is to say that their losses are equal... I am going to go ahead and give you the oppertunity to take that back...

Umm... Vandy doesn't exactly have an ovewhelming home field advantage, not like oh I don't know OSU home field advantage... Have you ever been to a Vandy game...? I'll assume not after that comment...

Lets look at the schedule that the teams had control over... Their non-confrence schedule...

Michigan's was: ND 10-2, CMU 8-4, Ball State 5-7 (one game from being bowl eligible, as was Indiana) and our common opponent Vandy who I already mentioned but I was wrong we beat them by 20...

Florida's was: Southern Miss. 8-5 (not bad), FSU 6-6, UCF 4-8 and 1AA WESTERN CAROLINA 2-9

Ya Florida sure did everything they could to get to the NC... [IMG]

Your grasping at straws here... Michigan had the 3rd hardest schedule in the Nation, Very comparable to what Florida had... And I don't know where you got your stats from but Michigan beat 2 teams with 10 wins... ND and Wisconsin they also beat 4 teams with 8 wins this year.... ND, Wisconsin, Central Michigan and Penn. St.... Hmm... IDENTICAL... To say that Florida earned their way in and Michigan didn't is ignorant... They had identical records... You can't penalize a TEAM for a CONFRENCE'S policy to not have a championship game... Believe me I wish they would so we could see what the game would turn out to be on neutral turf...

It's also not Michigan's fault that the Big 10 is percieved (and that is all it is to this point is perception and speculation) to be the inferior confrence and they shouldn't be penalized for that... The bottom line is that the BCS is supposed to be a system that puts the best 2 teams against each other to where there is no debate... This obviously isn't the case... THE SYSTEM FAILED AND THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT RIGHT IS TO HAVE A PLAYOFF...

    FACTS THAT SIDE WITH MICHIGAN:
-Michigan played just as tough of a schedule as Florida and did it more impressively...

-Our lone common opponent Michigan beat them by 20, Florida won by 6...

-Michigan held the #2 rank for 7 weeks this year... Florida was given the #2 rank by lobbiests in an attempt to save face...

-Our loss was to the best team in the country on the road by 3 points... Florida lost by 10 on the road to the 10th best team in the country

    FACTS THAT SIDE WITH FLORIDA:
    -They won the SEC championship...

-They finished with 4 top 25 opponents to Michigan's 3

Given the facts BF1 laid out comparing UM & UF, a very slight advantage goes to the Gators.

Equitable or not, The SEC has been screwed the most by the BCS and finally gets some payback. <u>Michigan did not win their Conference championship while Fla did</u>. That plus the Bruins winning is what cost them IMO.

Trojans screwed UM once and may do it again... in Pasadena. Woooooooooo!

BCS actually owes Michigan this game. [IMG]

If it wasn't for Michigan beating Penn State last year, we would of had another Auburn debacle.

I actually heard on NFL Network that he computers were a dead tie between the two and it's the human votes that go Florida into the National Title. So really the BCS isn't the one to blame. Had they tweaked this sytem before 03, USC may of been able to play LSU.

I truly believe they created a flawed system on purpose.

Its funny when you realize that Computer programs are only as good as whoever designed & program them. Its only right that Humans break the tie.

Maybe, from now on, they ought to have the fans break ties.

I can't remember did Florida lose??? Your point is irrelavent... Another good question is if Michigan would have pulled that game out would Florida still be in the game? I doubt it...

The computers did have it right and that is what makes me so mad... This was a concious decision by pollsters to put a P.C. team in the NC... Just like back when it was the AP and Coaches polls who decided it... This whole thing is a sham...

If USC would have won that game it would have been USC in the Championship and I would be ranting just as hard...

From now on they should let the teams break the tie and keep the games on the field...
This system did nothing to fix the problems that have faced college football... It just got a hand full of people very rich...

So why should Michigan fail for the failing of the BCS in the past is that fair? Also, show me where it takes a conference championship to get into the NC? Obviously, the creators of the BCS didn't think that it was that important to put it into the rules... That is a cop out...

I say again that both teams deserve to be there equally... You can't make a solid case either way... Believe me I would have found it... My vindication will come once the bowls are played... Then we can look back at this thread and say either the Big 10 is better than what people gave them credit for or the SEC is just as good as everyone thought... Either way yet another NCAA football championship will have a "Ya but"... When it is talked about...

Another thing that has been brought up is if USC would of won out and obviously went to the NT would Florida of passed Michigan in the polls. Many seem to think no they wouldn't of.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Murtyle)</div><div class='quotemain'>So why should Michigan fail for the failing of the BCS in the past is that fair?</div>
Like Life, The BCS isn't fair

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Murtyle)</div><div class='quotemain'>Also, show me where it takes a conference championship to get into the NC? Obviously, the creators of the BCS didn't think that it was that important to put it into the rules... That is a cop out...</div>
You need to be a conference champ to make BCS bowl i.e Oklahoma a few years ago. Using deductive reasoning... The Noles who lost to the Canes a few years ago yet made the title game could also be used as precedence.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Murtyle)</div><div class='quotemain'>I say again that both teams deserve to be there equally... When it is talked about...</div>
We all agree that its a flawed system. Don't get me wrong I like Michigan. I even wanted them to beat OSU (and posted as such). All I am saying is that Florida going is some degree of balence, retribution, etc...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (porky88)</div><div class='quotemain'>Another thing that has been brought up is if USC would of won out and obviously went to the NT would Florida of passed Michigan in the polls. Many seem to think no they wouldn't of.</div>
Like I stated previously, The Trojans screwed Michigan.

Look at it this way, The 2 Conference Champs from the 2 premiere conferences are now squaring off for the Fancy hardware.

What if they add Conference power ranking or strength of schedule to the final BCS computation?

Thoughts on fans breaking a tie?

Fans breaking the tie would be tough because how would we vote? American Idol style or online and who would run it. CBS, ESPN, FOX???

I personally would love to vote but it might be to complicated to work.

I also like the Florida vs. Ohio State game. I'm not upset the Michigan got snubbed. As far as I'm concern someone was going to get left out and it ended up being Michigan. At least they had a fighting chance.

I think the most overlooked thing going on right now is the Oregon vs. Oklahoma game. If the refs don't blow that call then we have an even bigger problem as OU would be 11-1 as well.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Murtyle)</div><div class='quotemain'>I can't remember did Florida lose??? Your point is irrelavent... Another good question is if Michigan would have pulled that game out would Florida still be in the game? I doubt it...

The computers did have it right and that is what makes me so mad... This was a concious decision by pollsters to put a P.C. team in the NC... Just like back when it was the AP and Coaches polls who decided it... This whole thing is a sham...

If USC would have won that game it would have been USC in the Championship and I would be ranting just as hard...

From now on they should let the teams break the tie and keep the games on the field...
This system did nothing to fix the problems that have faced college football... It just got a hand full of people very rich...</div>
    1) if florida didnt get in and there was gators fan crying like a baby on the board I would tell them what i am telling you

    2) That wasnt the reason why the coaches popped florida ahead of michigan. If it was just about the PC matchup, then the AP would have stuck with michigan at 2 since thier vote no longer counts, but they also put florida ahead.

    3) USC wins and i would make same point to FL + MI fans

    4) They did let it get decided on field, every team involved simply had to win on field and they would have gone.

Fans voting becomes a massive popularity contest... It's back to CUbuffs regional fan base theory... It would work well for teams like Michigan and USC but not so well for teams like Oklahoma State and Arkansas...

Don't get debating and voicing my opinion as crying.... I have already stated that Florida deserves to be there for many of the reasons that you have brought up... I also believe that Michigan has an equal right to be there as well and there in lies the problem...

That said... The ESPN Allstate poll did keep Michigan at 2 and their vote doesn't count either... So what does the AP poll prove? Putting your faith in a poll system brings us right back to pre-BCS split championships... They can't do the job either because of these situations...

Your point about it being played on the field doesn't work in this case... The fact is they both lost once so you can't use strictly use their record... Michigan did exactly what Florida did so how do you decipher between them? There is no way but to put them on the field... I think your the only one in america that is saying that that isn't a Florida or OSU fan and isn't getting paid to do so... It is that obvious that it is flawed...

Now if anyone here is confident that Florida is the better team than take the challenge... I'll bet anything you want that Florida loses by more than what Michigan lost to them... Since, common opponents is the only thing that we can compare these two teams on take the bet... I'm serious... I'll even do this... I'll bet anyone here that OSU loses by more than 10pts to OSU... Any takers now?

while i am not opposed to making the bet, i would be unwilling to just concede margin of victory of one game proving a team better. For all i konw UM played game of thier lives vs OSU and OSU just couldnt get up mentally for game. Then if florida comes out flat and OSU plays game of their lives it would look like UM was better, when in fact, they just caught OSU on the right day.

I can guarantee Urban will have the Gators ready. Both OL & DL will be healthy.

They know you're right. They'll argue against you and never admit they know Michigan would have beat OSU on a neutral field. You've made a winning case in this thread. You will be proved correct when the game is played and the Gators lose big. As for your bet offer, I've only found one man on this board willing to back up they're mouth with a fair bet, so don'thold your breath! [IMG]
