Al Iannazzone says Pacers will release Darrell Armstrong tomorrow and the Nets will be calling his agent immediately...as will other GM's. Armstrong, like Houston, wants guaranteed money. http://njmg.typepad.com/zzone/2007/09/net-gains.html

QUOTE (mynetsforlife)

In honor of JBF:

DOOT THRON. NUTHING BETER ANIT GUNNA COME!!!

You should be asking if he'd pass it to Boone

A very necessary pickup since Marcus went down. We don't know the extent of the damage, so I'll take a chance on Armstrong. He is still worthy of minutes.

We needed Armstrong before Marcus went down, nothing new there, now we need to make sure this gets done. Dallas will be tough to beat but we better give them one heck of a fight for him.

If Marcus' injury was the impetus for this move, there really was a silver lining.
This is the player they should have been going after all along.
Hopefully Marcus comes back 100% healthy and Armstrong is integrated and playing well.
That combination of backups will help the Nets save Kidd minutes and make the team much stronger than if they signed Malik Allen or Allen Houston.

Difference between remainder of MLE ($1.35M) and the vets minimum, if guaranteed ($1.22M) is $230,000 to the player, but to the team, it's more like a half million dollars since the league reimburses teams for anything above $770,000 (I think thats the figure).

Iannazzone has reported (twice) that the Nets were interested in him before the Marcus injury, including in the link posted. They had to wait until the Pacers made their move. The Pacers were asking for a second round choice but no one bit, knowing Indiana would have to dump him before October 1.

QUOTE (ghoti)

That combination of backups will help the Nets save Kidd minutes and make the team much stronger than if they signed Malik Allen or Allen Houston.

Malik Allen is Krstic insurance. Houston and Jumaine Jones are Eddie House replacements. Robert Hite will have a hard time making the team if Jones playes well or Houston shows up next week.

So Robert Hite will be gone, if we have Jumaine Jones? Please deal with BRob and Ilic, we are out of roster spots.

QUOTE (Dumpy)

No interest in Gary Payton?

Absolutely none. He's shot.
I do like Jalen Rose, though.

And I don't think Rod Benson, and somebody will join the Nets, since we are full in the rosters. If we will give up a spot for a 3rd string PG, then
we must give up one current guy. If we will sign Houston or Jones, we have to give up another again.
So by the way, BRob, Ilic, Hite, two of them might be gone.
Not to mention Benson...

houston...armstrong...who's next? mutombo?
i wouldn't mind all those players on the roster though...
