QUOTE

Wages of Wins Journal, an online basketball statistics site, says that the Nets’ declining number of wins over the past few years is not due to the Big Three, but to Rod Thorn’s inability to put together an effective bench. “In each of the past two seasons the supporting cast actually combined to hurt the team”, researcher David Berri writes. Unfortunately, he adds, the trend may continue.

True, then again he's also handicapped by the lux tax. I mean we've added magloire, Sean Williams, now we're stuck because one more move puts us over. The one move maybe Houston, a 3rd PG or another big.

The Nets are no easy sell even with Kidd and Carter. Kidd deserves every penny and Vince has a pretty reasonable deal IMO. RJ and Collins are overpaid to an extent but both are vital role players for us as well. In retrospect drafting better (Armstrong, Mile, Zoran, Wright) and avoiding McInnis would have been nice but we've got a pretty decent squad now and Rod's got us a nice mixture of younth and experience.

It doesn't matter. Even if we assume that the wages of wins method has 100% validity, within that framework, the analysis is still very poor.

Look! I'm an economics professor! Now no one can dare question my authority! How about just looking at the "minutes played" column for the top seven players entering each season. Idiot.

Sometimes I wonder how many people outside of the metropolitan area realize that Ed Stefanski is actually the Nets GM. I know Thorn is famous and all, but shouldn't the GM get at least a good portion of the credit or the blame?
