There's a lot of good artists based in Chicago who are still doing good things (Common, Lupe et al), and everybody out of the Justus League from N. Carolina is golden (Median, Strange Fruit Project, Little Brother, 9th, Nicolay). Then all around the nation there are artists who are still putting out good music. I just can't think of anyone off the top of my head who's keeping hip hop from being a joke in Atlanta. The epitome of what's wrong with hip hop is coming out of that area. Now to clarify, I don't particularly like the bay area rap, but that's more culturally based and so I accept it. But rims, grills, rappers with ZERO lyrical skills, chains, and b*tches are glorified in southern rap and its pretty painful to watch and listen to.

So how can they be The Mecca of Southern Hip Hop?

Lol @ North Carolina being the southern hip hop mecca...
Atlanta Houston Memphis Miami North Carolina.
That's how it goes.

There's obviously going to be some subjectivity to our opinions. While Atlanta surely is more popular in commercial rap culture, musicians are coming out of N. Carolina. JMHO
Ah, I figured I was forgetting someone: Outkast. The other people on that list, I am not fans of.

Can you please post some of these "musicians" coming out of North Carolina?

Also, I find it a little strange that you listen to Little Brother but don't like Goodie Mob or Scarface or UGK.

I did above. The Justus League and people they're callaborating with are just on a whole different level than what I'm hearing from Atlanta. There's a big difference between people who create music and get paid for it, and people who use music as a get-rich-quick scheme. Now obviously this doesn't pertain to more established Atl artists, but a lot of whats coming out of there is just...blah.

Atlanta dudes?

Different stuff. I like CunninLynguists, The Roots, Atmosphere, Mos Def, Outkast & etc. as well as more known artists like T.I., Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, Killer Mike, Young Dro & Jeezy. So yeah I do listen to a lot of Atlanta dudes as you condescendingly put it, but also listen to the acts you probably enjoy listening to as well.

Condescendingly? Your username is ATLien. I was taking a guess. Sheesh.
Pretty good lineup there, I listen to a lil more than half those guys.

They're really good, tho, Outkast especially gives ATL a good name. southernplayalisticcadillacmusic I love sayin that as if it's one word real fast haha.

QUOTE (o.iatlhawksfan)

Ludacris is good

IMO only sometimes...some of his songs are really annoying, others are great to listen to.

But there's more good artists from Atlanta than just Outkast. You have the rest of the Dungeon Family collective, and a handful of mainstream cats who are doing their thing. And don't forget the countless number of talented producers coming out of Atlanta such as DJ Toomp and DJ Kno. Maybe I'm biased but I think Atlanta has conributed far more to hip-hop than North Carolina ever has.
