for the record, here is how much each of the free agents would make if they made the team:

    --Darrell Armstrong: $1.219M

    --Allan Houston: $1.219M

    --Jumaine Jones: $1.10M

    --Malik Allen: $964K

    --Mateen Cleaves: $964K

    --Eddie Gill: $895K

[The amounts above are what the Nets would have to carry on their books for salary cap purposes, but the league pays anything over $771K, so luxury tax aside, the Nets will pay only $771K if they sign Armstrong or Houston to a fully guaranteed contract.]

    --Robert Hite: $687K

    --Rod Benson: $427K

hm. so Rod Benson could realistically become a cheap pickup. I'd love to have just him and Hite, but that's just my love for youth on NBA teams speaking.

Darrell and Jumaine would be much smarter aquisitions.

I'd love Armstrong, Houston, Benson over Hite, Deathblow, Illic. Expensive, however.

Realistically--and I use that term loosely, he would have to beat out Malik Allen. With Krstic and Boone still at less than 100%, it is highly, highly unlikely that Frank would go into the season with two rookies, Sean Williams and Rod Benson, as insurance. Best bet for Benson would be a return to the D-League, where he could get a call up. But there is no money there and he has said he is prepared to go to Europe.

If we get Houston, I think Boki is out the door by January. In return a trade exception, he'd fit in with GSW who has a TE.
