QUOTE

The Fort Lee-based Southpole clothing company is the top cash bidder to replace Continental Airlines as the naming rights partner for the Meadowlands arena, a company executive declared Tuesday.
"I know for a fact that our bid is the highest bid," Southpole Vice President David Strumeier said, citing an unnamed official at the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. "We didn't just throw bids into a bucket. We knew we were bidding on the high side. And I think the highest bid should get it."
The agency's board is expected to choose among Southpole, Rocawear and Izod at Thursday's monthly meeting.
Strumeier did not specify the amount of the bid, but all three bids are thought to be $1.4 million to $2 million annually.
Sports Authority President George Zoffinger said, "It depends what you count" in determining the highest bid, adding that dollars are not the only factor in choosing a naming rights partner for the New Jersey Nets' home court.
"This is a five-year decision, and we have to look at a lot of things, including price, the marketing plan, and the economic stability of the bidders," Zoffinger said. "There's a lot more involved here than just a direct dollar amount. A lot of people looked solely at price during the Internet boom, and they had to take their names off the building."

Source: North Jersey

I consider this extra incentive for the Nets to play good defense this year.
Because really, who doesn't want to hear snarky announcer comments like "The Heat have really gone cold here at the Southpole Arena"?

well the Penguins already play in the Iglooo, but you could have fun with it. Snow-like confetti could fall from the ceiling. "Mr. Freeze" could roam the aisles. A video of a glacier calving (cracking) could be shown on the board after a furious dunk.
