So the Leafs started the season with Raycroft, who had a mediocre-good game against Ottawa. My question to any Leaf/hockey fans out there is who should be starting? I personally think it should be Toskala. Raycroft has shown over the past two seasons that he's essentially maxed out his potential. He's inconsistent and while can definitely be a solid starter, needs a good defensive pairing in front of him or he'll get exposed repeatedly. Toskala just seems to have more potential and since our team's gonna suck anyways, might as well find out if he's worth the money/draft pick. He definitely has to adjust his style and be less aggressive, but I think he's capable of changing.

Toskala; Raycroft has shown he's overrated.

Neither. Leafs overpaid for Toskala who had been a backup before yet they paid him starters money.

lol, start neither? I agree that the Leafs overpaid for Toskala (kind of like they did a year ago with Raycroft) but they need to put someone in net.

Anyways, Toskala started last night against the Sens and while Toronto lost, he played a pretty decent game. I think its pretty clear that he's got more talent and potential than Raycroft and seeing as the Leafs kind of suck anyways, they might as well let Vesa show what he's got.

I dont know know, really....I want to give Raycroft another chance but my gut feeling is that Toskala will play better for us. I would split the games up 50 to 32 in favor of Vesa.

Vesa is about 30 and Razor is a lot young than that, so when you speak about potential realize that it only makes sense to look at things THIS year.

Vesa looked good in San Jose, which last time I checked wasn't that hard to do. Razor won a record number of games for the Leafs last year, Vesa has been a career back-up. Razor won the ROY three years ago. Seriously, look at the stats from last year, Vesa's sv% ain't that much better than Razor's and kind in mind that Razor had McCabe playing in front of him.

exactly neither of them have a the potential to be top 10 goalies in teh league, if you are going to pay that money they better be top 10

Afters Toskala's and Raycrofts contracts are over their Maple Leaf careers are done as the Leafs are trying to tailor Justin Pogge to be their future goaltender. So I honestly dont care that Raycroft is younger and still has a ton of potential, if playing Toskala means winning thats what I want to see as a Leaf's fan.

It's hard to blame Toskala for the game against Carolina but seven goals to the Hurricanes is horrible.

Anyone know if he's getting the start tonight?

I've missed some NHL stuff, but doesn't it appear to you Leafs fans that the team has given up a whole lot to trade for two solid but not exceptional goalies while not really toughening up the blueline? I think either goalie would be servicable if the team had some more D men to block shots and play tighter in their own zone. The Leafs have size on the back end, but not a ton of quality, outside the offensive abilities of guys like Kabrle, McCabe and Kubina...Not trying to hate, like I said, I have some hockey catching up to do [IMG]
