IF the Chargers win the Super Bowl, where would put them as opposed to other Super Bowl winners? They obviously have the best Offense in the league, and they can play Defense too.

What i ask now is, are they the best ever? Probabaly not, but where would you guys put them?

As far as i can remember, i can't think of any team who has been this dominant on both sides of the ball. But the NFL isnt 10 years old.

The Cowboys teams of the 90s were pretty dominant on both sides of the ball.
So were the 96 Packers. I'm pretty sure they were top five in the league in offense, defense and special teams that year.

It's too early to make a call about this year's Chargers team. They need to survive one of the biggest curses of all...the Marty Schottenheimer playoff curse.

It would be interesting to see the Chargers play the Colts in the championship game. At least then one of the two curses would have to be broken...Manning's or Marty's.

With apologies to Gates, who is a terrific TE, I'm not scared of the Bolts passing game, if it weren't for the threat of LT.

The defense is playing very well, but I believe they are overachieving. The reason I say this is because I do not believe that their secondary is elite. They have a good run defense. They also have a good pass rush, but when a team is able to gameplan around that, the whole defense will become vulnerable. They will still be good, but not as worthy of an elite consideration.

I agree with you and PA, which both in a way alluded to the fact that this balanced act is not seen as often lately. However, the 90s had several, good balanced teams.

So... Which teams are worthy of being elite. And I wouldn't be surprised if you way Cowboys.

i think we should wait till they actually win it before we place them along with the all time great teams. The playoffs can tell a lot about a team.

The 90's Cowboys were a special team especially the 92-93 and 93-94 squads. They were the 1st team to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. There has never been a better Oline formed than that one. Emmitt is a top 5 back in the history of the NFL. Troy Aikman was one of the most accurate QBs in history and they had an incredible receiving core with Irvin, Alvin Harper, Jay Novacek and Kelvin Martin. They also had an incredible Dline. Charles Haley, Jim Jeffcoat, Tony Tolbert, Russell Maryland, Jimmie Jones, Leon Lett, Tony Cassillas...it was a nasty rotation that they used. They were always fresh on the defensive front and the quality of player didn't go down. Also in the secondary, you know you got it good when Darren Woodson is just your backup at safety.

I agree. If they steam role through the playoffs then we can talk about where they rank all time. the Buffalo Bills of the 90s were a great balanced team but they went 0-4 in the big game.

The '01, '03, and '04 Pats were pretty good, don't you think? Did the 'boys go on a 21 game winning streak?
