Scolari makes peace with Dragutinovic
LISBON (AFP) - Portugal's Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said Friday that he has made peace with Serbian player Ivica Dragutinovic, whom he attacked after a Euro 2008 qualifier on September 12. Scolari was suspended for three months, one month of which is suspended, by UEFA on Thursday but revealed that he and Dragutinovic and shaken hands and made up after meeting at the UEFA hearing. "It was the first time I spoke with him. I had spoken with him by telephone in front of members of UEFA and we both made our apologies," said Scolari. Scolari defended his reaction by claiming he was protecting his midfielder Ricardo Quaresma, before then apologising for his actions. He was initially suspended for four matches but he will now miss only three macthes and will be available to sit on the bench for Portugal's final Euro qualifying match against Finland on November 21. Scolari, who was also fined about 12,00 euros, added: "In a certain way, although my mistake has not been forgotten, my name has been restored." Portugal sit third in group A but have a game in hand on Finland, in second, and front-runners Poland. They next play rock-bottom Azerbaijan, with Scolari branding it a vital match. "The fourth, the third and the second matches don't exist because first we have to play Azerbaijan. It's the most important, it's virtually a final," he said.
