i didnt see the game, but i must say... Over the past few years, i have actually turned dowen the National Anthem. Mostly due to the way Jessica Simpson sang it on opening day a few years ago. I can not stand the way some people can sing the national anthem, and not get booed. There are some people who can sing it, the ones who try to turn it into a pop song need to be shot.
^^ I agree 100%. The National Anthem should be respected and people who get a chance to sing it on national t.v should feel honored. Instead they go out and change the words and style of the music, if this was any other country these "singers" would be booed out of the arena.
I think the biggest problem is that a lot of singers look at performing the National Anthem as an opportunity to gain some exposure, so they are trying to impress the audience with their vocal abilities. I think the best arrangements of the National Anthem are fairly simple and tasteful. The best singers remember that the song should be the star and not the singer. The best example I can think of is to listen to Etta James sing "At Last" then listen to Cristina Agullera maul the song to death.
