Communism is more of a Government and a way of life, and to me, it was more like the countries that "used(?)" Communism were allies, and were not all under one control...except in the case of Russia, but the countries it took control of were taken as a result of WW2.</p> That's how I see it, at least: That Communism simply "united" countries because they all shared the same Government and way of life, but still left most of them under separate control.</p>

And it was an Empire of sorts IMO as one leader (Stalin) Controlled many countries so surely it qualifies as an empire?</p> </p>
I'm not particularly proud of considering the current Iraq war in this light, but being objective its certainly plausable that "acquiring" Iraq (currently) and spreading USA ideologies (democracy) and culture could be seen as a more modern iteration of the USA empire.</p>
