Hassan Adams was and is better then Antoine Wright. I still wish we could have traded Wright for a second rounder last season but I just cannot picture Antoine making that next big leap into a scorer. His confidence gets shattered way to easily and he evenutally turns into the Jason Collins-Jacque Vaughn of swingmen. Atleast with Hassan he would bring that intesity, that energy, that give it all attitude that we hardly see in a lackluster Wright. Now, hassan had a LOT to learn about the game but the potential was there and sure, he was a last minute invite to the Cavs but we've seen what he could have done in limited minutes. His 16/8 against the Celtics, his 18 pt fourth quarter against the Suns.

Sure, you could say the Nets were 1-7 with him startingbut they missed Krstic and RJ badly and if Wright had started, who's to say they still wouldn't have been 1-7?

I'm probably in the minority in this but I really would have preferred to have kept Hassan and try and trade Wright.

I think Wright is a bust. I have to, since I really don't see significant signs of improvement. Yes his shot started to hit sparingly towards the end of last year, but not enough so that I can look at where he was picked and justify the decision to draft him. My criticisms start with drafting him in the first place, but not our inability to trade him (perhaps our decision to resign him). But now that he's here I'm not sure who we should (or could) trade him for. Any team that looks at him will see that he's a complete project on one side of the floor. I think now that we're stuck with him we've got to spend the rest of his contract trying to squeeze what we can out of him; use him as a role player. Like I said, I think he's a bust but I'll be rooting for him to get better.
As for picking him or Hassan, thats not really possible due to the guarantees in their contracts. I agree that Hassan could have had a bigger impact than Wright, but he was a cap casulty.

Wright is really a good defensive player, he can be a player like Bowen or Posey, why not keep him?

^ You don't know that Kevin Durrant will be good. You don't know Vince Carter will be good this year because things drastically change. Sometimes you pick the risk and we picked Wright and if he dosen't turn into anything, it's not hurting us that bad.

No, Adams isn't better than Wright. Not that Wright is good, but Adams is well a jump shot away from being Buford

Wright's no rookie, which is why I'm losing faith. Every year its the same story, "hopefully this is Antoine's year." lol we're having an argument? I must be getting senile
First let me be clear that I'm not making any statement about this season (it obviously hasn't happened yet). Rather, I'm noticing a recurring theme of Antoine Wright continually being a disappointment with regard to his college career. He was a good shooter in college, but now its non existant. Thats pretty much a definition of a bust: when a good college player comes to the NBA and the skills just don't translate.
I should also make note of a specific distinguishment I made in my first post: the only reason I think he's a bust is not because I'm reading his future and don't believe he'll ever get better (as I've said, I'm rooting for him every game). Rather, its simply because he hasn't shown that his game has transitioned from college to the NBA; which is true, he's still struggling to find his shot.

Wright has the possibility of becoming a better player, with the good shot he had in college, and his size, but I feel Hassan was better for this team. If he was trusted with minutes on a consistent basis, and played alongside Kidd, Marcus, RJ, Collins, and Boki alot, I think he coulda showed us alot more than what he showed last season.

It's unfortunate that Thorn has his knee fetish or Danny Granger might be a Net. He showed up at his pre-draft workouts with a swollen knee, having had knee surgery the previous summer.
Wright played extremely well in preseason last year, outscoring (as I recall) all second year players in preseason. He has to have a great preseason again, at least showing progress because I believe the Nets have to make a contract decision on him by October 31. By that date, they have to exercise Wright's option for the 2008-09 season. And if the team declines, then Wright enters free agency as an unrestricted free agent on July 1 of next year. That's when you'll know if he's bust.

Lets see what Wright shows us is preseason. He'll definately get his chance then to show how his shot has or hasn't improved and then maybe we'll have some more talking points in the bust or not discussion. I'd still love to see Hassan rocking a Nets uni but Frank showed he really had no idea what to do with him and nor do I feel Adams is a good fit on here anymore with the acquisitions we've made. Wright is a better one in the grand scheme of our current team. I'd rather Frank have a guy insert a guy he trusts in Wright than one he doesn't in Adams.
