I'm still trying to figure out what happened to the Texas AM Wright. What happened to his shot, his finishing ability his drives? It's liek as soon as he put that Nets jersey on, he lost it.

He must have major confidence issues, like Nichols from Syracuse...with the right coach and the right situation, Wright could make the transition from college to the NBA...but with Frank and the Nets, so far, he hasn't.

Give him a chance. I still have faith in him. Remember, his growth last year coincided with the release from jail of his brother--his best friend, and once an NBA hopeful.

Hassan is nothing more than an over-glorified, but not as good, DeShawn Stevenson. Outside of offensive rebounding and confidence, he does nothing better than Antoine. Not defending, not ball handling, not reading plays, not scoring. It's always been home teams' fans to tout their hustle guys. Losing Adams does us nothing. Once Antoine gets used to the minutes he gets per night, he'll be far and above Hassan and the OP will eat crow.

He's disappointed me so far, but I'm always up for giving people chances (see Frank, Lawrence).
I just hope that maybe the issues with his brother was the only problem, and he gets it together this upcoming season. I'm sick of the Nets giving up on good players to pick up other players that turn out to be disappointments.

Hey, where's my new post? You think it's funny deleting other people's posts? What if I deleted your posts? Would you like that?

I remember when watching that draft that my first assumption when the Nets were on the clock was that they should have taken Granger. I like Granger, especially when you compare him to Wright. But I think Wright needs to keep his chin up, play good D, and even hopefully handle some minutes at the point. If that happens he'll be fine. I'd like to see him regain that outside shot, but as long as Boki and Nenad are hitting from the outside, I can live with Wright helping in other areas. He's still a better option than playing Kidd as a two guard.

When the Nets were up to pick in that draft, all I was thinking was "HAKIM WARRICK HAKIM WARRICK HAKIM WARRICK"...and then I heard the name "Antoine Wright" I was like WTF? That dude? Shit. Why didn't they pick Hak?!?!
I will never get over that disappointment.

I too was hoping for Hakim Warrick, and had to run to espn after we drafted Wright because I had never heard of him.

QUOTE (Charles)

... Kidd as a two guard.

Kidd isn't any 2 guard...but...one thing that I've noticed is that when he's not handling the ball he's a good option to kick the ball back out and pop it in. I'd say he's a pretty decent shooter when he gets plenty of time to set...have him even a little bit off balance tho' or trying to get around traffic and his percentages seem to plummet.

Let's not forget the historical context of that draft...
Within 48 hours of the draft, Lawrence Frank was at Shareef Abdur-Rahim's doorstep in Atlanta to tell him how interested the Nets were in signining him.Frank had been an usherat SAR's weddingfouryears earlier.Similar overtures were made to Stromile Swift and to a lesser degree Donyell Marshall. The Nets wanted a veteran big man, not Hakim Warrick. They probably would have taken Sean May if he hadn't been picked by the Bobcats. Wright looked like a smart pick. The Nets wanted a backup for RJ, someone who could knock down the open shot and defend. Danny Granger had had off season knee surgery the summer before and showed up at his predraft workouts with a swollen knee. Indiana smartly took a chance on him and told him to take the summer to rest and rehab the knee.
So how'd it work out. Bottom line, it could have been a lot worse. SAR has failed to produce and now has (surprise) knee problems. The Nets would have paid him $38 million. Swift, who signed with Houston only after the Nets agreed to a deal with SAR, has been (surprise) a disaster. Nets would have paid him nearly $30 million. Marshall is looking old and his contract is now regarded as one of several albatrosses on the Cavs roster. May, after missing more than 100 games his first two years, will miss 82 this year after undergoing microfracture. Would Granger have been a better pick? Sure. Warrick? Maybe. But the debate in the war room was not between Antoine Wright and either of those two guys. It was between Wright and Gerald Green.
The disaster came in the second round. Stefanski recently told season ticket holders the Nets tried desperately to move up so they could get Monta Ellis early in the second round, offering deals to several teams before Ellis was grabbed by the Warriors at #40. Then, three picks later, the Nets chose Mile Ilic. Who was left on the board? Louis Williams of the 76ers, Michael Gelabale of the Sonics, Andray Blatche of the Wizards, Ryan Gomes of the Celtics, and Amir Johnson of the Pistons. Three of them may have been high school players--Williams, Blatche and Johnson, but the Nets considered taking Green and tried to grab Ellis, who were also high school players.

well he hasnt proved anything...and if we dont pickup his option...thats more money for boki/krstic/magloire.

I would say Maybe Donyell Marshall is not really a good big man for the Nets, but if the Netshas signed him, then Cavs would not havetortured the Nets in Game 6 when Marshall nailed three after threes..

Too bad now we know that was complete bullshit.
