    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Pro Bowl revisited

The league?s Competition Committee voted unanimously last spring to move the Pro Bowl announcement from a Thursday to a Tuesday, which was an off-day for players on 28 of the 32 NFL teams. Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher, co-chairman of the eight-man committee, said the intent of the move was minimizing the debate within the locker room and with the media. Of course, this year?s selections, especially that of San Diego?s Shawne Merriman, still created a distractions around the league. Also, the move also robbed head coaches of being allowed to announce their team?s selections in front of all the players. You know, a kind of celebration.

Fisher said that he?s sure the Committee will re-visit the announcement day again this off-season.

Jason Taylor and Champ Bailey have already said that Merriman, who was suspended for four games for steroid use, shouldn?t have been named to the Pro Bowl. Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney agrees with them. ?The NFL screwed up by naming him to the Pro Bowl,? Freeney said of Merriman, who has a league-best 16 quarterback sacks.

There is a big push league-wide that either Taylor or Bailey wins the Defensive Player of the Year award over Merriman, too.

?It?s obviously flattering for me, but this is the ultimate team game on the planet and I would much rather have the team success like Indy is having than the individual accolades,? Taylor said of the award. ?But if that was to happen, it would still be a team award for me. But like I said, I would much rather be playing in January.?

Lost in all the rumors of Nick Saban denying any interest in Alabama is the fact that Saban has produced only Miami?s second losing season since 1988.</div>

It would totally be in my favor of the arguement if Shawne Merriman gets defensive player of the year award. Kick him off the pro bowl squad, put another player, and we are done. We really need to fix this up. It's like giving someone a reward if they cheated. I had a rant on the pro bowl voting so I'll just end it.
