QUOTE (Mitchell)

T.J. Ford and Jose Calderon alternated at point guard for Toronto, although Mitchell said Ford would remain the starter. "These guys don't have egos," he said. "We feel that, combined, we've got the best 1-2 point guard rotation in the league."
http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story/?ID=220111&hubname= Really? Better than JKidd and DStrong? Ok so DStrong isn't officially on the team yet, but so what.
Yes, I have to say better together then Kidd and Dstrong. Ford brings quickness, play making skills and the ability to get guys open. Calderon does the same thing, just as well, if not better with a pass first mentality. They can both start or come off the bench, and lead their team to victory.

JKidd is amazing...but then theres a huge dropoff when Armstrong will be on the floor, common your a NJ fan didnt you see how Calderon abused Kidd in game 6 of the playoffs? Thats even when he was injured.

Well, Jason Kidd almost single handedly beat them in the playoffs, carried Marcus. I think Kidd/Armstrong is on another level, with more talent, more experience and more ablility to control the game.

Ford can beat him any day with his quickness. That tandem is not on another level. Kidd is on his own level, but that is it. Calderon and Ford, with a hear under their belt together, will not get owned by Kidd this year. Our tandem is way better then Kidd and Armstrong. I would take Calderon/Ford over Kidd/Armstrong any day.

Abused is a strong word. Calderon/Ford failed to get other players involved, Ford especially. But this was the gameplan. I'm not saying that the Raptors aren't fast or tough to guard, but I think the playoffs as an example is more a product of gameplan. We wanted to funnel the points through the guards and we did.
I was about to say, I'd take Kidd > Ford and Calderon, so you could have Mini Sly playing backup PG for the Nets and I'd still take them. Playoff minutes would be a concern though ;-)

QUOTE (ghoti)

Kidd and ghoti > Ford and Calderon.
And it isn't really close.
Get real.

The quote is "The best 1-2 PGs in the league" not the best PG in the league because then there wouldnt be an arguement but with Ford and Calderon there really is no drop off in talent if you watch any of the Raptor games. For examplen when Ford went down with an injury midway through the season last year Calderon got the start and put up double double numbers. You have to be a true homer if you are saying Armstrong is a great PG at the moment.

They had no one on the entire roster that could effectively guard him, and he was criminally underused by Mitchell in that series.
The Nets wanted the smaller, weaker, less dangerous Ford in the game. Kidd physically dominated him on the offensive end and was able to rest on him defensively because the more shots he takes the better it is for the opponent.

Sam Mitchell should realize who else is in the division before he makes comments like these. I guess he has selective memory.

How about Jack/Blake/Rodriguez/Green for pure depth to compete with Toronto? Nash and his backup would also compete with Kidd and his backup.
