Kobe Wants Winners, Not Just All-Stars

<font class="bilinelead">HONOLULU - </font>From afar, before he ever signed with the Lakers, Derek Fisher felt Kobe Bryant's pain and Lakers coach Phil Jackson's pain.</p>

Fisher understood "Kobe's and Phil's frustration" when both lashed out over the summer, when both questioned the organization's commitment to making the team better, when both wanted significant improvements.</p>

But to Fisher, Bryant's rant was never solely about bringing in top talent. To Fisher, Bryant's rant had a deeper meaning.</p>

"I never thought it was, 'I've got to get Kevin Garnett, or I've got to get Jason Kidd, or I've got to get Jermaine O'Neal,'" Fisher said. "I just felt he said and still is saying, 'I need some winners. I want some winners.'"</p>

The Lakers did make an unsuccessful bid to get Garnett and O'Neal this offseason and just didn't pull the trigger on the Kidd trade last season.</p>

They re-signed Chris Mihm and Luke Walton and brought back Fisher.</p>

To Fisher, who has become a confidant to Bryant, Bryant hadn't given up on his teammates, the same teammates he still has.</p>

To Fisher, who played eight years with Bryant and won three NBA championships with him, Bryant wanted some more "warriors."</p>

"I hear him saying, 'Give me guys that I like, that I see that put their shoes on every night to win,'" Fisher said. "My name isn't Jason Kidd. But I guarantee you that Kobe is going to appreciate what he gets from me on a night in and night basis compared to what he's had at that position."</div></p>

Maybe in NBA Live 2K8, but not in real life. LOL. The only team Smush consistently lights up are the Orlando Magic.</p>

Lakers need more guys on the team with Turiaf's warrior attitude, who lay it all out every single game. Those type of players make a huge impact throughout the season on the court and in the locker room. I liked the physical play of Elton Brown last night, maybe he'll win the final roster spot.</p>

These players need to be moved for having the wrong attitude.</p>

I'm not familiar with the Lakers or Cook. Why him?</p>

...Is it because he's all for himself, all about stats and not about defense and winning?</p>

Brian Cook enjoys the party scene and hasn't made an effort to expand his game and learn how to score in the post and defend better. Last season he had the nerve to throw his warm-ups at Phil Jackson before coming off the bench. PJax immediately told him to sit his butt back down and Cook argued with him on the sidelines. I don't care for his attitude and I don't care for his work ethic he needs to go.</p>
