QUOTE

MONTREAL - Carey Price's first taste of live NHL firepower will come against the high-scoring Pittsburgh Penguins.

The highly regarded rookie got the nod from coach Guy Carbonneau on Tuesday that he will start in goal when the Montreal Canadiens visit Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. "It's pretty exciting to get going," the 20-year-old said. "I might get a lot of shots, so I'll get into the game early.

"I know what I'll be up against. They're a really good team with a pretty high-octane offence, so it should be a great game. I'm a little nervous, but it's just another game and hopefully I have a lot more ahead of me."

Big day for him. He can be our future or he can be just another kid.

Twenty-five stops in a 3 - 2 win. Pretty impressive for the young guy.

Impressive. He was simply dominant in the Juniors and I've heard/read that he basically carried his AHL team to the Calder Cup this year. Glad to see he could make the transition to the pros. It doesn't seem fair that the Canadiens get another franchise goalie.

Carey Price already is talked about around Montreal as the long-sought heir to the Canadiens' goaltending throne abdicated by Patrick Roy upon his trade to Colorado in 1996.

That is a lot of pressure, especially for a 20-year-old rookie playing the most pressure-packed position in hockey for an Original Six franchise with a rabid following throughout North America.

Price played as though pressure were no factor in his NHL debut Wednesday.

Twenty-two years to the day Roy started and won his first NHL game, in Pittsburgh, Price was the main reason Montreal edged the Penguins, 3-2, at Mellon Arena last night.

I really hopes he makes his own name rather than follow someone else. It does ease a lot of pressure for this franchise though knowing that we having something to fall back to especailly with Hamilton loaded with young talent and Huet in his contract year.
