Here are the 17 Finalists: http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/story.jsp?story_id=2285 If I had to vote, I'd vote for: Richard Dent Bruce Matthews Art Monk Derrick Thomas Paul Tagliabue I would probably vote for Ray Guy over Tagliabue, but what Paul did for the NFL in the past 17 years as commish is nothing short of amazing.
Thurman Thomas is on the edge for me. I'd like to see him in though...Yeah...I'd vote for him too. You add his total yardage numbers up and it's pretty impressive.

Even though they never won a Super Bowl. Getting to one alone is very difficult. 4 in a row is amazing.

Emmitt called him the best running back in the league after the Cowboys first Super Bowl win. Most people forget that Thomas was good enough to keep Barry Sanders on the bench at Oklahoma St. I know that doesn't count towards his NFL eligibility, but still that's quite an honor.
Got to put thurman thomas in. 16k yards from scrimmage? I dont understand how he got to 2nd ballot. Plus, he has more receptions than lynn swann.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Plus, he has more receptions than lynn swann.</div> Good Lord! You're right! He also led the NFL in yards from scrimmage a record four times.

FYI he has almost 40% more catches than swan!

Its the HOF. championship not required for the greatest players of all time. btw, being one of 5 best players on the 2nd best team in the league 4 times is pretty damn impressive. Swann getting in cuz he team won rings is ridiculous. btw we are comparing his recieving #s to those of a rb, and he is stacking up. I think that says it all.

Now I don't think that's an excuse for him to get in, but that's what he's remembered for. Also, he had very good numbers for WRs of the time. He got in before John Stallworth though despite Stallworth being more productive over his career. Swann's in for the same reason that Joe Namath is in...he did something that is one of the most memorable events in NFL history. Namath threw a ton more INTs than he did TDs. I think he only had like 3 or 4 seasons where he threw more TDs than INTs in that season. He's the worst QB in the Hall of Fame in my opinion. But he's in because he made what seemed to be an outrageous prediction and he saved the playing of the Super Bowl. There was considerations that the Super Bowl would cease to be if the Jets got blown out by Baltimore in that game. However, Namath was the MVP despite not accounting for a single point in the game. The Jets defense won that game for him. That rant aside...I respect the NFL Hall of Fame more than any of the others, especially baseball's. Baseball's hall of fame is ridiculous. There will always be mistakes in voting players into the hall. I really hope that Thurman gets into the Hall. Really he'll be the first of a modern dual threat RB type that will be put into the Hall. His election will pave the way for Marshall Faulk's election into the Hall in a few years.

If i am not mistaken, he didnt finish in top 10 in league once. He makes being in the HOF less special.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Swann's #s actually were pretty horrible for his era. If i am not mistaken, he didnt finish in top 10 in league once. He makes being in the HOF less special.</div> He did finish in the top ten in some categories, but never recorded a 1000 yard season. Receptions: 1977-7th, 1978-7th Receiving yards: 1975-8th, 1977-4th, 1978-7th Receiving TDs: 1975-1st, 1977-6th, 1978-2nd Rush/Receive TDs: 1975-7th, 1978-5th He made the Pro Bowl 3 times (1975/1977/1978) By way of comparison, though, Sterling Sharpe shattered all of his numbers while playing in three fewer games...Swann had 115 career games, Sharpe had 112. Sterling had: 595 receptions, to Swann's 336 8134 yards, to Swann's 5462 65 TDs to Swann's 51 Sharpe made 5 Pro Bowls to Swann's three while leading the league in receptions three times, yardage once and receiving TDs twice. No one's ever once come close to mentioning Sterling Sharpe as a Hall of Famer (other than me). In Swann's defense, though, he's a much better sideline reporter and commentator than Sterling (or Shannon) will ever be. So maybe he should be in the BROADCASTING hall of fame...
